Bryce May Not Be the Answer

Bryce Young will never be a franchise QB. At best he's on the level of Ryan Fitzpatrick. Accept it and move on. Also, stop wasting 1st round picks on QBs. That's a luxury pick.

A luxury pick? Perhaps I don't clearly understand what you're saying.

First round QBs are the ones that have the highest probability of actually succeeding in this league.

Now "wasting first round picks on QBs" is a different story. "Wasting" picks like trading multiple firsts to move up and get a bust is not a luxury, it's just unfortunate at best or dumb at worst (depending on the situation of course).

That being said, I believe that if you allow a prospective franchise QB to fall to you without giving up a king's ransom, then you have to take swings until you hit the homerun.

Yeah, the only lesson to take from the Bryce situation is that you don't completely mortgage the franchise to trade up to draft a guy that has every physical talent red flag a QB can have.

For what its worth, as a Huddler and football fan, this is a lesson I won't forget.

It makes sense to draft a qb high next draft given how important the position is and how expensive it is to retain them after their rookie contract. Bryce can compete and help mentor a rookie who will try to take his job. It won't be a wasted pick as we will have our starter and backup both on rookie contracts. We also have the option

I would be drafting a qb this draft because the rookie draft is much cheaper than bringing in a good vet and we could have our starter and backup both on rookie contracts. We could also develop both and trade one away for more draft picks.  Canales has shown he has some ability to develop qbs so why not give him the talent he needs. The QB position is the most expensive to retain so having cheaper options through the draft seems a good idea.

Think it's broader than that. If they have a bunch of physical red flags, don't pick/trade the farm to get them 1-1, or even later still. There is a time to take that risk in a player with physical red flags, but trading assets and value from early rounds (4) ain't it.

I would just keep an eye on his play the rest of the season and see how it goes. He wasn't all world today but his line looked terrible as well so I can't fully fault him. He still shows much more courage and some competitive spirit week to week than he ever did all last season so I would just wait and see. I can see week to week it's going to be "Bryce is awful" if he doesn't have a solid game every game. I personally don't know what I think of him as a long term answer but could get a clearer picture observing him the last few games but I would most definitely bring in competition in the off-season. That still doesn't mean I would be drafting a QB in the first round this season but I would look to bring in some competition regardless.

I agree. I'm just saying DEFINITELY don't mortgage the franchise for a player like that. Bryce fits the classic mold of the great college player who just lacks the measurables to project as a starter at the next level and ends up being a mid-late round pick. I have no idea why with this particular guy the entire football world adopted a narrative of how all the red flags didn't matter and he'll excel anyway. I've never seen that happen before. The Golden Calf of Bristol getting drafted by McDaniels in the 1st is probably the closest thing I can come up with and he was still a late 1st rounder.
