"Don’t Look Now, but Bryce Young is Closing the Gap on C.J. Stroud"

Sttoud was terrible yesterday, inaccurate. Taking too many hits really does affect one’s  confidence and composure.

I still think he’s already proven what he can be but it also shows what a fine line it is when you don’t have your weapons like Tank Dell or don’t trust your protection. He will bounce back

btw, How this Texans team is in the playoffs is mind boggling

I think he had a bad game. Like the Panthers at Dallas. Every QB/team does. He still looks like the guy. But agree, you can't string together so many bad misses in a row. It looked really bad.

The Texans are a pretty good team in the worst division in football. They'll be in the playoffs for awhile. Even without Tank, they have Nico and Dalton Schultz. Metchie seems to be figuring things out and little too. And Robert Woods is their Adam Thielen.

Well you're comparing the top 3 teams in one division vs the bottom 3 teams in another division. Nobody in the NFC South would even have a winning record if we won our games against them.

Texans division is probably slightly worse, but the NFC South is crap too. 9-10 wins is enough to win either of these divisions, especially if you're winning your division games. It's not like Stroud/Houston has some massive advantage in this regard.

I'm not saying there's some chasm between the two. But the AFC South has two teams with worse records (right now) than the last-place team in the NFC South.

Young has his best game and it still required the other team shooting themselves in the foot to barely get a win. Some of you must love to be disappointed. The only thing Young has done is raise his value when they inevitably trade him because, checks stats, he is still a loser in the NFL.

Stroud is going through what Young went through last year due to having arguably the worst OL in football; though Stroud is performing better than Young did with a porous OL. Maybe you can attribute that to better weapons or better coaching, regardless, neither is a finished project and comparing them now is shortsighted.

This does make a good case for Joe Burrow being MVP if he can somehow get the Bengals in the playoffs. The numbers he’s putting up with a bottom 5 OL is insane. Yeah, he has elite weapons but you still need to be able to get the ball to them. Burrow has shown the ability do that regardless of how bad his OL, Strouds not quite there yet.

FWIW, Lamar or Allen probably win MVP but Burrow should be in the conversation if the Bengals sneak into the playoffs.

Yup.  So much of a player's success is based on chemistry.  Too often, a bad team drafts a great/good college QB in hopes that he will swoop in and save the day (and jobs).  It simply does not work that way.  The Bulls were good, but even with Jordan, they had a formula.  Pippen, obviously.  They also had a shooting guard who was deadly beyond the arc, a seven footer, and a rebounder.  Without those elements of Phil Jackson's offense, they were not invincible.

Stroud can play QB-he has a great attitude, composure, and he can throw the ball.  And a lack of success that is not your fault that is laid upon your 23-year old shoulders will rattle your confidence. That makes a QB hesitate a half a tenth of a second before passing the ball, or it makes him lock onto WRs who have bailed him out.

A defense is also very important, and Houston has had a good one.  Field position, fourth downs, etc.  Cam got bailed out a lot by his defense, allowing him to have a strong fourth quarter and win the game if his first three quarters were not great.  From this perspective, I think Bryce needs solid, sure handed WRs who move chains.  Forget the #1 WR crap-give me a group who can get open and catch the ball.  Period. For example, I like this WR from TCU (Beck) who is rated around 11th overall.  Young/our qb needs a dominant TE--Sanders?  Tremble?  Not what I would call dominant yet, but as #2 and #3 TEs, I would say "good."  So I think we add a WR and a TE.  I would like a dominant center, but Cade Mays is learning the position and getting better.  PFF has his pass blocking grade over 70.  That will improve.

We are not far away from having all the pieces--I think this offseason will complete the process.  Add an Edge, DT, maybe an ILB--re-sign Mike Jackson.

    • Ravens, Bills, Chiefs. Hoping the Bills or Ravens can save us from another Chiefs Super Bowl appearance.
    • The NFC definitely seems a lot more open. I'll be pretty surprised if it's anyone other than KC or Buffalo out of the AFC.
