Not sure about Abdul Carter just yet...

Was looking at what players are getting mocked to us at the moment, and the most common one is Abdul Carter from Penn State. I know we still got 4 more games to determine where we actually draft, but doesn't hurt to get a jump on the top players.

Now to preface this, I read reports that the reason why he hasn't played edge until this season is because he and his father were both ADAMANT from day 1 that he was a stand up linebacker, no if's or buts about it.

So, what made him change his mind finally this season? Here's his answer:

Now, I know most people will probably say "gotta get that money, can't blame a guy for that", and I agree to an extent, but after watching a few interviews and his tape, he seems to be solely motivated by money, and if he was real about football and the craft of it, then he would've been team-first and been an edge this whole time imho. When he talks about football in other interviews, he is terrible at breaking down the game or his play at press conferences. He's so raw he could be turned into sashimi by the time he gets on the field.

I'm getting major Isaiah Simmons bust-vibes from him. But like I said, it's super early, but just wanted to see your thoughts on a player like this and that kinda mentality and headspace.

This is one of the most flawed arguments I’ve seen on this board. I hate to break it to you but every single player in the NFL is motivated by money, as is 99% of the world’s population. Also, please give some evidence to substantiate your claim that he is “terrible at breaking down the game”, very bold claim to make with zero evidence. It’s actually funny to hear people judge players abilities when they clearly haven’t even watched them play. A true junior putting up 10 sacks in the big ten is beyond impressive. He has started for PSU since his freshman year where he put up 6.5 sacks. While yes this is his first year playing more true DE, he has experience pass rushing and is definitely not a raw rusher. And to go along with your claim he is not a team first player, he has stated a multitude of times he will play wherever he is needed. And has spent a good portion of snaps this year dropping into coverage and playing LB, that assumption is just out of touch. We would be lucky to draft Carter with our first pick. Also, for all of you who claim Abdul is a horrible run defender you might be shocked to know he leads the entire big ten in TFLS with 19.5.Carter leads the Big Ten with

I'd take Mason Graham 10 out of 10 times over him.

I was coming in to say the same thing we seem to get way more with Mason. He pass rushes well and stuff the sht out the run. Next to Brown would go a long way with controlling the line of scrimmage all game I’d say.

I hope we also take into account his big game play in big games. He shows up when needed most, all rookies need development but he seems way more pro ready than any other options. His DB teammate seems just as ready as well Harbaugh ran a excellent program I’d lean towards one of his blue chip players over anyone else.

It’s like drafting Georgia players a couple years ago they had a pipeline of extra talented kids who’ve been drafted high and produced well.

He may be great, but we're not in a position for "luxury" picks and hoping they reach their potential. If we're sold on him and his role, sure. But if there's any hesitation as to where he plays, what he is, etc., go get the no doubt, surefire guy.

Right now, that's Mason Graham or T-Mac to me. Find a way to come away with one of those two, find a pass rusher in FA, and draft another one in the 2nd or 3rd.
