I also said "our respective draft board". You're going by the media/consensus draft board. No telling whether jeanty will be that high on our board. Also, we can always talk BPA this, BPA that, but "need" is gonna find its way into the war room somehow. When a team has as many holes as we do, its gonna pop up. BPA is a luxury for teams that have less holes to fill. It is also dependent on what we do in FA.

Well when you add in our respective draft board that changes everything. Because at that point the need is already built in. I doubt we even scout Sanders Ward or look hard at Jenty in that case. But in terms of true BPA players in college they are in the conversation is all I am saying.

We are saying the same thing to a degree. I love how feisty we are. Keep fighting show glimpses of the future.. But a win at this point only gets us further away from what we eventually want a super bowl.. there is a large drop off in this draft after the 5th pick.. you go from franchise altering player to a very good starter

There is always a drop off point in every draft. Yet superstars are somehow found past pick 10. Have to identify talent in the draft that's what helps get you closer to a super bowl not hoping to lose games at the end of seasons. We could fug the pick up regardless of where we pick.

Yes. But you would rather have your choice of the obvious answers than the ones that you are more unsure about. That's the difference between picking at 4 and say 12.  At 4 your more sure about hunter and Tmac than say your picking at 12 your looking at who? Luther burden?

They will get scouted. You don't not scout a guy because you think you're fine in that department. You scout all players. Its why Dave has mentioned scouting Bryce when he was in Tampa even though they had Baker. I mean all things are in play though, are we expecting the Panther to all of sudden know how to build a roster now? Still remains to be seen IMO.

Do we want those type of talents?  Seems to be they put up great numbers, but don't help their teams win Championships especially after 3-4 seasons when you have to pay them big money.  Linemen and Defensive front 7 picks are more boring, but they tend to be better at winning championships.

Just look at the Lions.  Their first pick in the last 4 drafts db, rb, ol, and de.  And they have the best record in the NFC.  I think fan bases are overly obsessed with getting superstar wide receivers, even though there is not much evidence that having those superstar receivers actually leads to championships.

why would we not want those types of talents... Are you saying we are better off not having Chase and Justin Jefferson? Look how Darnold looked for us and how he just launched 5 touchdowns with the Vikings and the answer is clear. Your better off having good wrs than say leggett..

But now you're assuming just because TMAC is higher, he will have a better career than Burden. Fit, coaching, scheme all that matters. Sure you will get a more "NFL Ready" or supposedly more talented player so to say the higher you are in the draft. But to say us losing out and remaining top 5 will be the difference in a future super bowl is wild. I do agree that higher the pick the more likely you will draft a blue chip player but again nothing is guaranteed.

Seems to me it would be a waste of resources to spend time on a area you are clearly not going. They have already said they won't take a QB in the first round so why are we scouting the ones who are only available at the top of the draft? Same with Jenty. We just paid Chubba and drafted Brooks.. are we seriously taking another RB inside the top 10? Why waste the resources on players you are sure not to get when you could use those resources to go look at 2nd round picks and players more likely to be there or after?

Every pick is a gamble we got that. And yes I am saying the higher you pick the more options you have. More options has never been a bad thing. Having your choice of said blue chippers is better than saying okay the blue chippers are gone let's look at a red chip. can I say Tmac or Hunter will have a better career than Burden? No.. it's a gamble... but I want the right to choose and not have destiny ordained to me.

And yes Landing a bonafided stud like Chase or Jefferson could be the difference between meh and super bowl. Clearly we aren't talking about leggett the way teams view Nabers or Harrison JR or Brian Thomas Jr. They were better prospects all gone before we had the right to choose them. you rather choose than have to settle is all.

( I don't think were mathematically eliminated yet)

we're not. i play around with a playoff simulator when i'm REALLY bored (not as often as i would like, btw) and there's a few scenarios that it could work (getting into the playoffs). i mean the NFCS is a mess right now and we're actually looking like the toughest team in the division to beat.

I think the Panthers beat the Cowboys, Bucs, and Falcons. The likely pick will be around 12 to 15 in rd 1

no one on the schedule looks anywhere near as tough as the chiefs and eagles (who we should have and could have beaten)

I like XL, I think he’s going to be ok, but a team CAN’T reach on a first rounder. You just can’t. If there is any project vibes or they haven’t consistently shown to be that dude every year, then you don’t pick them in round 1.

You look at the board, you find the guy who is most likely to be an all pro, who fits team culture, that’s not a kicker, punter or RB… and you pick that guy.

Know what an unneeded all pro safety gets you when you really needed a WR? An all pro safety. Oh look, round 2 had a DE fall your way and he ends up playing out of his head. Now your scrub team suddenly has a defense that’s a problem for other teams, and just got some blue chip young talent. Kuechly was picked when they already had Beason and Thomas Davis.

… or you could reach at an injured RB and project WR and panther on.

Rebuilding teams don’t have the luxury of drafting project players. Legit talent has to be amassed quickly, with visible progress shown, or the coach gets fired and the process perpetuates.

    • You are wise beyond your years to agree with me.  I think Fields is the free agent with the most upside---I mean, you keep looking until your franchise qb is on the roster-we are all hoping that Bryce will grab it, but he has not yet.
    • he is a sleeper--I am not good at predicting college QBs who succeed in the NFL, but this guy is going to change my luck.  I just think he'd be a good fit here.  4th round, maybe 5th.
