Well, Morgan jumped the gun with Chuba, IMO.  Maybe by the time Young is up for his contract we could trade Hubbard.  I think Brooks career is already over. It's sad and I hate it or him, but he's got a slim to no chance of bouncing back. I wish him well.  That said, thinking he's our future is really bad planning.

The pick iss definitely not looking good now at all but how is his career over? Athletes have come back from 2 ACL's in the same knee. Odds are stacked even more against him now but I wouldn't count him out fully. I bet it could a full calendar year before we ever see him take another carry unfortunately. I feel like it's a good think they got Chuba locked up to a longer term deal. It's pretty team friendly, isn't breaking the bank and if I'm mistaken doesn't do much to the cap after two seasons in terms of if he was cut.  The Brooks thing is a huge bummer and I agree odds are against him big time now for ever having a productive career but hopefully he heals and rehabs again and stays relatively healthy as TD did. 2 years is a long time to be out of football though.

I’m more in favor of drafting or picking up an UDFA running back next off-season. Free agency should be focused on beefing up the defense and allowing us to fill out the rest of the holes with draft picks.

It’s a deep 2025 RB class and a lot of day 3 RBs have contributed this year so there should be some really good value in day 3 RBs. I wouldn’t want to pay a FA either. Grab a cheap complimentary RB in day 3 who can be insurance if Brooks doesn’t play at all next year. We’ve got a lot of day 3 picks.

Although I like Brooks and he was a great player at Texas, even if you remove the injury, picking a RB in the second round was a questionable move. Could have had Zack Frazier and solidified the C position for a decade. Panthers gonna Panther every draft, pass up obviously good players for no obvious reason.

And Panthers' fans gonna Panthers' fan like every team doesn't do this. It is very easy with 100% certainty to say we should've got Frazier now due to ability to see what has materialized. They didn't have that in April. Also, Corbett looked great until injury, and Mays has looked good except a few low snaps. Look the center position is covered for the next few years or more and we didn't have to waste a 2nd rounder on it like Pittsburgh.

Chuba's contract is not bad at all. What he jumped the gun on was Brooks. Chuba was already an effective back, so why spend valuable second round resources on another RB, especially one with literally higher price point(at that time)?

I also think we have likely seen the last of Brooks, unfortunately. I know people reference the TD's and Gore's but those are outliers. I highly doubt Brooks will ever be the same RB as he was in college after this. It will take a tremendous amount of mental strength to be able to trust that knee ever again.

Regardless, you have to pivot and get a late round RB or free agent RB unless you want to be stuck with Sanders. Blackshear is not a realistic option as a #2 RB.

First round is BPA, period, regardless of position.  We are too poor of a franchise to be saying "we're good" at any, repeat ANY position.  We can easily move on from bookmarks like Sanders a Blackshear.  Super easy, no sweat.

Chuba is playing like an above average back.   He's not, nor ever will be a Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams or CMC.  He's more of a Nick Goings or Anthony Johnson.  Sure, he'll get you 1000 yards in a season, but is that the best we can do?

I agree Brooks is done.  We won't give up on him in the near term, but penciling him in for a roster spot in 2025 would be a colossal blunder.

Having a top 5 or 10 RB is probably the dumbest possible move we could make. I don't care how good that kid is, he is not moving the needle enough to justify immediately being a top 10 paid RB, which he would be.

You can get a top tier RB in the 4th or 5th round. This literally happens almost every year.

It's not just insane, it's purely retarded to be taking a RB in the first or second round unless you are a completely built team with minimal needs outside RB.

Saying they should have taken a center in the draft is not new. Some of us were wanting the team to take one of the top centers long before the draft.

This is a terrible take. Frankly, everyone in the draft threads talked about the need at C. C was one of our highest needs and we liked a lot of the prospects. You obviously weren’t in the pre-draft threads.

Mays has looked just OK, center position is not covered. Corbett is a free agent and has played 9 total games in 2023 and 2024. Corbett looked OK as well but hadn’t played C in years and also was coming off a season where he missed 13 games. We seem to count on a lot of injured players.

It’s funny how you say C is covered and that Pittsburgh wasted a 2nd. There’s a reason why we have been shitty for years and they don’t have a losing record in a decade+. Pittsburgh wisely used their 2nd on a stud C. We did not and we are in now way better off for it.

You right, I wasn't because our team picks the guys we want about 4% of the time. I engage at first, but back away as the draft gets closer so as to not drive myself crazy like you all do. This is a miserable fan base indeed. There are centers every draft just like there are RBs every draft. Plus haven't you heard, it wouldn't have mattered who we drafted in the 2nd as we are cursed.

What is this obsession with center? How do you look at the 2024 panthers and fixate on that position above all others?

if you’re advocating drafting o lineman for the sake of then that’s fine and I don’t disagree. But there are worse things for a team with a qb that is only good as the other players carry him to than having an extra pair of hands catching out of the backfield.

The draft was prior to the 2024 season when center was a big need to create an amazing OL for years. Sorry, but that will always be important. Before 2024, Mays was absolutely just a backup and Corbett hadn’t played center in forever and was (and still is) a major injury concern.

It's not an obsession, it’s just another recent case of the huddle fans wanting to resolve a key hole and almost universally picking the right player while the GM picks a different player that doesn’t work out.
