Philosophy of drafting a raw prospect

Putting all your chips on a "raw prospect", seems foolish to me. Having to take the time of training him up and then hoping for the best in the end.

If the move doesn't work out, it's then a waste of a pick and time. This team has been down this road before, and I can't think of one that has worked out. No matter what position.

Stop gambling and playing "magic eight" ball in the draft. Choose players that you are sure have the necessary tools to excel. Pick a player who checks all the boxes, especially with a high pick.

The late first round WR that seems to have hands of stone. Hoping that he will "learn" to catch properly and that they can train him up.

Dude's route running has been legit good so far, something I was not anticipating this early in his career.

I hope he hits the jugs machine for 3 hours a day over the offseason.

Risk/reward. When it's an older prospect who is still considered raw that's a serious red flag. When it's a young guy with off the charts physical ability that you seem highly coachable then it's tempting. A lot of raw prospects get drafted in the mid-late rounds. I mean, pretty much all of those guys are either going to be raw or have serious concerns on whether or not their college success can translate to the NFL.

Yeah, I feel like this is what people are missing the most with Legette.

Cam Newton was "raw".  One could argue Thomas Davis was "raw".  But those guys still had multiple years of college production (albeit one of Cam's years was at Blinn).  Legette wasn't even a middling receiver his first 4 years; his production was nonexistent.  It is very concerning that his best and only year came when he was older and more experienced than most of the guys covering him.  When will that be the case in the NFL?  Is he "raw" so much as he just isn't that good?

Isn’t XL playing with an injured wrist? I honestly think he will get his drops corrected. The man clearly worked hard on his route running this offseason and it looks to have paid off.

It's pissing me off. He had a terrible hand injury weeks ago and everyone has forgot about it. Just like they forgot the hospital hit he took on like the 3rd snap of the game. By some miracle he was able to keep playing. He's probably got 5 other injuries we don't know about. He's a raw rookie taken with the 32nd pick and made most of our fans retarded. Mingo, TMJ, and DJohnson were supposed to be starting while XL learned how to NFL WR. Just silly to read most of the comments.

Dude never dropped balls in college.  He was aggressive and high pointed balls all the time.  I think either something is still wrong with his wrist or he just needs to get his confidence.  I don't think he was/is as raw as some people think.  He is a rookie at the end of the day.  Just like many rookies on this team that many here want to judge after a couple of games. I remember when many on this board were saying Derek Brown was a bust after a few games.   I thought XL should have caught that pass yesterday and hopefully whatever is going on can be corrected.

Rounds 1-2: players that can contribute right away

Round 3: player that is definitely contributing this year in some capacity, next year definitely. 

Round 4: special teams/backup db/lb/lineman

rest of the draft: most athletic people left regardless of position and trust your coaches. Bonus points if they dropped for weed.

Legit 45 MPH car wreck Gs. the next series he was in the huddle, Id be telling the trainers- "Im batman"...

but fug him for catching 98.4% of a deep pass he had to reach out to his extreme long catch radius for.

It's time this team stops gambling on this type of stuff. The Ladd vs XL is a prime example for me our team is not good enough to take on the risk of the gamble. 

If someone has elite traits coming in that you know will translate stop bypassing them for the size/speed specimen in a hope of coaching them up
