Pat Yasinskas Mock Pick for Panthers is...

I've been waiting to make my post about our d-line..and I will continue to wait to do so until after the draft. I don't feel the d-line is as bad as many people make it out to be. Yes, there is a lot of inexperience along the line, but there is even more inexperience in the draft. Things will work themselves out, and I will make the post I have in mind, after the draft, and the picture becomes a bit more clear.

Love what you did there...and agree with it.

Stupid remark that we should take a DT in the draft because Irvin is unproven.....like any rookie is proven.

My comment was in response to a posting that we don't need to take another DT this year because we drafted Irvin last year, so the assumption is that we got what we needed at that position last year... but we don't know what we got last year because we haven't seen Irvin play.

On top of that Irvin is not projected to be the kind of run-stuffing DT we need to replace Kemo/Hollis Thomas.

1st off regarding Corvey Irvin ~ Corvey Irvin is trash, he was trash in College and he will amount to nothing in the NFL.

2nd ~ Here is my two cents on what will happen. If the Panthers trade up into the first round it will be to select a Wide Receiver or Defensive End. If we stay where we are I see us taking a Defensive Tackle or Quarterback.

3rd ~ As of right now the D-Line looks like this

DE {1}

Tyler Brayton

Charles Johnson

DE {2}

Everette Brown

Hilee Taylor

Eric Moore

DT {1}

Louis Leonard

Nick Hayden

Derek Landri

DT {2}

Tank Tyler

Ed Johnson

Corvey Irvin

4th and Finally ~ Mini Mock-Draft

If we trade up into the first I see us taking one of the following...

WR- Dez Bryant

WR- Golden Tate

WR- Demaryius Thomas

DE- Jason Pierre-Paul

DE- Everson Griffin

DE- Carlos Dunlap

DE- Tyson Alualu

If we stay as is this is how I think it will happen....

QB- Colt McCoy

QB- The Golden Calf of Bristol

DT- Brian Price

DT- Terrence Cody

DT- Lamarr Houston

DT- Torell Troup

DT- Cam Thomas

Mark my words one of the fourteen players will be a Panther.

LOL, I was trying to give Mr. Irvin the benefit of the doubt - but you're right, he wasn't exactly the most heralded prospect.. allot of scouts and analysts said "huh?" when the Panthers spent a 3rd round pick on him... all the more reason to strongly consider a DT when our first pick comes up.

Haha, sorry I was pissed at that pick, I started throwing crap at the TV.

I just don't see DT being first priority in this draft. We already made moves to bring in Tank and Leonard.

Word. We didn't trade our pick to get Tank. I think we're fine with our DTs. Pat & other analyists should know we need WR, unless they like to be stupid with being wrong on us getting a DT in the first pick when that isn't going to happend.

Who? Most sites had Irvin rated in the 3rd or 4th round, which is where we took him. As for any comment that he is trash, that's just silly (I know you didn't say that, but I'm just making a general point here). Raw, yes, but not trash. In fact, the biggest reason he was rated as only a third or fourth round value was because of his rawness.

My guess is that anyone who thinks Irvin is trash never really paid much attention to him when (or even if) they watched Georgia play. After we drafted him, they ran several UGA games on the various sports channels, so I paid special attention to what he brought. And the biggest factor with him was that he needed to get stronger. What I noticed is that he usually made the right read, and played it properly, but occasionally would get pushed out of the play because he sometimes struggled to anchor. However, he also made quite a few plays. Not always ones that get you on the stat sheet, but things like filling the gap and getting decent penetration forcing the play away from him. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't all world, and in addition to adding strength, he needs some work on his technique. But overall, he showed the instincts and awareness to read the play correctly, and demonstrated the ability to make a play, as well as the potential to make quite a few more if he gains strength.

So, my view on Irvin is that while I don't know if he will be ready to start this year, he definitely has the potential to be a solid starter. But if a top DT such as Alualu that is just too good to pass up drops in our laps, I could see the team picking him up.

Agree, not necessarily on Woods - but I think the Panthers will go DT with their first pick in the draft and look for a WR in the 3rd or 4th round.

Yeah. If we go with a D-lineman in the 2nd, we will most definitely get at least 2 wideouts from the 3rd-6th rounds. I sorta agree with Yas's general reasoning but not with Woods
