The Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced five individuals have reached the finalist stage of its Class of 2025. The five people who are one step closer to being enshrined in Canton, Ohio are Ralph Hay (Contributor), Mike Holmgren (Coach), and Maxie Baughan, Sterling Sharpe and Jim Tyrer (Seniors).

No Luke...

Isn’t he listed as one of the 25 modern era players still in the running? The article says:

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has its finalists for the seniors, coach and contributor part of the Class of 2025, but it still needs to decide the finalist for the modern-era players. The 25 players who are in the running to make the Hall of Fame are quarterback Eli Manning; running backs Fred Taylor and Ricky Watters; wide receivers Anquan Boldin, Torry Holt, Steve Smith Sr., Hines Ward and Reggie Wayne; tight end Antonio Gates; offensive linemen Willie Anderson, Jahri Evans, Richmond Webb, Steve Wisniewski and Marshal Yanda; defensive backs Eric Allen, Rodney Harrison, Earl Thomas and Darren Woodson; linebackers James Harrison, Luke Kuechly and Terrell Suggs; defensive linemen Jared Allen, Robert Mathis and Vince Wilfork; and kicker Adam Vinatieri.”

side note: looking at the list of potential players, it is bananas if he doesn’t get in. But Panthers are always getting screwed.

I wouldn’t say that, we are biased because we are Panthers fans. But that’s a stacked class, especially at linebacker. IMO Luke’s the best of those linebackers, but I’m also super biased in that assertion.

Biased? Most definitely. But I still think Luke was the best off ball linebacker almost every year he played. And at worst was maybe top three or four. Don’t know you could say that of many of the other names on the list though I like a lot of them…except manning.

If Luke isn't first ballot after Willis got in on his first try then what remains of Canton's credibility is toast at this point.

Edit: Actually scratch that, Patrick apparently didn't get in on his first year of eligibility. My bad.

These are senior finalists. Not the modern era player finalists.

yeah, they don't like the equivalent of Eli at other positions sniff the HOF

Not that I particularly agree with it, but don't be shocked if he is in on 1st ballot. The ones that vote for him will say he was a big game qb, 2-0 in Superbowls, beat the undefeated Pats, has the pedigree, etc etc.

    • Nah I love Thielen and he's a more than valuable player, but I think we have that role covered a bit with XL (in terms of the going across the middle) and if we were to draft T-Mac, he also thrives on crossing routes and absorbing hits while making crazy grabs. I'd rather have a peak Curtis Samuel type of slot WR over a Thielen, especially with XL and Coker already on the roster who are more in the Thielen mold from the slot than a Samuel, even if they aren't exactly Thielen of course.
    • Call me crazy but I'd like a Bersin type guy in later rounds that can learn under AT the tricks about how to get open. Bersin wasn't flashy or fast, but he caught every damn thing thrown at him. Someone who's willing to go across the middle and take those hits and actually hang on to the damn ball is something I think we've been sorely missing for a while.
    • I'm not going to try and go find old posts from months and months ago, but yes, you called me crazy for saying T-Mac over Hunter as a WR on numerous occasions. and yes, you are a Madden fanboy (and I don't mean the game, just in how you view potential roster management moves, you view them as if it's Madden where you can manipulate things to get whatever you want done). Again, that you don't see this stuff is an indictment on you, not me.
