What Exactly Caused Bryces Turnaround?

Short time line-

BY named starter, first games Bates ruins his ability to throw mid-deep after 2 INTs. Each week he is under pressure from a bad OL. His coaches call 90% play calls as if BY cannot throw past the LOS. By seasons end, his confidence is shot.

2024 starts he's still shell shocked and done menially. Dave benched him and a small part of him is upset. Dalton shows him this is the NFL and the OL has greatly improved, don't be scared about mistakes and make the throws like you do in practice. BY starts to understand and doesn't overthink, each week he's figuring it.

Props- I had him done and he's having one of the biggest turns in NFL history. Im not on the BY train and still hoping FO brings in other legit QBs. Still he's no longer the clear 32nd rank QB each week, if his limit is average play against good-great defensives, Ill take it.

That fuger has made start to rethink his weapons, cause..........ugh........ If this is the type QB he is........ AT and XL and whatever the "hot" TE it is not close enough to level of talent. That's my biggest take from this- mingo and Johnson(panthers #1) were traded, TEs are hit by injuries, AT comes in by the 3rd game into 5 game....... fuging 30 year old multiple teams David Mooore is best option??

He started to believe in himself again. For all the talk about an Allstar coaching staff nothing they did showed they believed in him.

The benching for that hail mary broke him last year. Frank didn't want him and wasn't going to do anything to help improve his macanics until year 2. It was a bad situation all around.

Now he seems to say f*ck it, I'm going to do this on my own if I have to. I hope he can pull it off.

That All-Star cast was a joke from day one! I have a lot of family who are Colts fans and they laughed every time they saw me until Frank was fired. Second, I've never liked Jim Caldwell as he has seemed so aloof and lacking in passion since the day I met him. I met him on a recruiting trip in 1999 and even then they were shuffling him through the room like a feeble old man on the way to a bathroom trip. When he had his runs in Detroit and Indi, I thought no way this is the same guy!  Deuce was just a lot of mouth, our OL coach should have had his ass kicked! And lastly, Frank didn't want him. Frank and Josh's demeanor at Stroud's pro day versus Bryce's was crazy evident in telling who they wanted.

I'll be honest I don't know what happened, but I watched the game and was invested. Game tying drive plus two point conversion last week, late game drive to take the lead this week, and making almost every throw is all you can ask of a QB. He is showing competence and that is where I couldn't support him the first two weeks, because he showed none! Would be one helluva comeback story.

Worth noting the TD% and INT% for both:

BY is at a ~3.6% TD per pass, ~1.8% INT per pass

Stroud is at ~2.5% TD per pass, ~2% INT per pass

This is arguably Stroud's worst period of his career tho and he looks about as good as BY.  We've seen a lot of higher highs from Stroud. Hopefully we do from BY soon, too

Are those career stats, this year or stats since the benching?

Also tbf while we have a better o line Diggs ( i know hes hurt now),  nico and tank >>>>> thielen, x and moore

The stats were from the last 5 games, which are arguably Stroud's worst in his career vs Bryce's best

Me personally, I'm still not overly impressed by him. Dont get me wrong, he is a lot better. I still dont see him ever being much more than a game manager. However if he continues to play decent and improve the rest of the season, I'm all for giving him one more year. Would love to find a young-ish QB who is a backup somewhere, and has shown potential, to come in and compete next season.

I believe his resurgence has a lot to do with him starting to believe in his coaches and teammates. Something that was impossible to do last season.

Naaaaa I need yall Bryce haters to keep that same energy. Pick a different team. We do not need you part of the fan base.

Nah man, we need all hands on deck.

I've been a bigger BY9 supporter than a lot of people, but Panthers fans have had a right to be pissed...

I think some of it has been misplaced at Bryce considering all the organizational incompetence of the past 7 years, but fans have a right to be upset at the putrid product on the field.

And the truth is, fair or not to Bryce individually (and whether it made sense given where this team was- hint, it didn't), BY9 was still drafted #1 and that comes with a lot of expectations.

And those expectations have not really been met until recently, and especially the past 2 weeks.

I'm just happy as hell we finally look to be getting off the mat from being a joke franchise.

I certainly hope Bryce continues to build on these performances.

I think we go into next season hoping he can be the guy, but i also think we need legit competition as well.

I want to win the NFC South next year, one way or another.

And as a fanbase, we finally have some hope.

I personally have both hands out welcoming anyone and everyone to join this ride.

After 7 long years in the darkness, hopefully the light at the end of the tunnel is starting to show.

What changed during his benching? He grew 2 more inches duh!! In all seriousness, we gave him a lot of bashing for his physical limitations, but it has way more to do with his confidence.

I was at the home opener against the Chargers... it wasn't the same person.

Bryce looked dejected and about 5'5" at the end of the Chargers game.

He genuinely looked broken mentally & physically

I thought we may had seen the last snap BY9 would take in Carolina. It was that bad.

Give Canales credit- whether intentional or not, this may come across as one of the best temporary benching in NFL history.

Bryce looks completely different, physically and mentally.

BY9 is starting to look like Bama Bryce, the small guy everyone doubts until he dots them up.

I felt that was about Drew Brees for 15 damn years...

I hope the rest of the NFC South grows to feel that way about Bryce

Probably not a single factor but likely the biggest is regaining the trust in not just himself but the team around him. I suspect watching Dalton operate the offense gave him the evidence to show that while far from perfect, he has something to work with now. He can work on fundamentals without getting plastered every play. He can throw with anticipation and - while a catch isn't guaranteed - at least his guy will be where he expects him to be most of the time. He can believe in this offensive system and coaching staff which is better than the old one. He's basically getting the rookie season he didn't get to have.

Honestly, most QB's who go through what BY did don't even make it this far. His future is far from certain but someone that can pull themselves out of the scrap heap like this definitely has something in them. At least enough to say we can work with this.

    • These last couple playoff/championship games for the edge class will mean millions. Someone will have a big game and become the favorite top edge. Everything is on the line for the edge group now.
    • Because he's not the best prospect in the draft, he's the best college player in the draft, and those are two entirely different things. Yes, if he focused on one side, his stats may have been better, but stats aren't what makes a player's prospects, it's their abilities and how they translate to the next level. I'm also not knocking him as a prospect, not like I'm saying he's a mid round pick, he's just probably the 2nd best CB and 3rd best WR, in what way is that throwing shade on him?  It's literally saying he's a Top 10 pick, just not THE top prospect at his position(s).  I really don't get why you think someone saying a player is the 2nd best player at one position and 2nd or 3rd best at another position is hating on them, it's crazy talk. Even in your defense of him here, you say a just asinine sentence, "he's the #1 rated prospect because he's actually elite at both positions" His ability at 2 positions has 0% bearing on his NFL prospects, as no team is going to use him full time both ways, he's either going to be a full time WR, or a mostly full time CB who gets 5 or so snaps a game on offense.   So him playing both positions shouldn't factor into any team's draft evaluation of him, if a team is taking him over Johnson because of the few snaps he'd play on offense, they're choosing a player for the wrong reason.  The only way I'm taking him over T-Mac is if it's a team that already has a true outside #1 and what they need is speed in the slot to compliment the outside guy (and btw, most teams don't have that, if anything, most would have the slot guy and need the true outside #1).
