What does the rule say now?  Isn’t  there something about control but the ball can move? Idk someone edumicate me plz.

Quote

COMPLETED OR INTERCEPTED PASS

A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) in the field of play, at the sideline, or in the end zone if a player, who is inbounds:

a. secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and

b. touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and

c. after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, performs any act common to the game (e.g., tuck the ball away, extend it forward, take an additional step, turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so.

Notes:

Movement of the ball does not automatically result in loss of control.
If a player, who satisfied (a) and (b), but has not satisfied (c), contacts the ground and loses control of the ball, it is an incomplete pass if the ball hits the ground before he regains control, or if he regains control out of bounds
A receiver is considered a player in a defenseless posture (See 12-2-7) throughout the entire process of the catch and until the player is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent.
If a pass is caught simultaneously by two eligible opponents, and both players retain it, the ball belongs to the passers. It is not a simultaneous catch if a player gains control first and an opponent subsequently gains joint control. If the ball is muffed after simultaneous touching by two such players, all the players of the passing team become eligible to catch the loose ball.
If a player, who is in possession of the ball, is held up and carried out of bounds by an opponent before both feet or any part of his body other than his hands touches the ground inbounds, it is a completed or intercepted pass. It is not necessary for the player to maintain control of the ball when he lands out of bounds.
ARTICLE 4. INCOMPLETE PASS
Any forward pass (legal or illegal) is incomplete and the ball is dead immediately if the pass strikes the ground or goes out of bounds. An incomplete pass is a loss of down, and the ball returns to the previous spot.

Note: If there is any question whether a forward pass is complete, intercepted, or incomplete, it is to be ruled incomplete.

so basically it's still a bit subjective. refs interpret it. don't expect that to be done fairly or consistently.

    • No he has the tools, you are wrong sorry.  And I don't see where I said being a nice guy or well mannered transfers to success, I simply stated what I saw out of him in some up close personal interactions on the sidelines after a couple games. I can't explain what's going on with him but he had it for a season and hasn't recaptured it. The team around him is junk and he has not made them better. A good QB can still perform with crap but right now he isn't playing like a good QB.  The guy has more than "the look". The look is nothing more than height. He has the tools and once showed them quite well on the field. They are there somewhere, whether he finds them again who knows but the guy has all the talent in the world. If you want to talk about someone fooling us in college, check out Shedeur. Great in college but won't transfer to the NFL. Will make a fine backup one day but that's about it. Only difference between Shedeur and Lawrence is Shedeur wasn't good enough to lead his team to a national championship in college.
    • It should be simple: Make your title game and win (in), lose (committee talks, but probably in). Don't make your title game (out). The Power 5 will be back so that could easily give you 10 of the 12 teams. So that leaves 2 spots a year per se. Do you give it to two smaller conference champs? Sounds perfect. Teams out will say, But But We're Ranked! To which you reply, too bad, you couldn't even make your title game. Fans would MUCH rather see a 1-2 loss Louisiana, Tulane, Marshall, UNLV, Bowling Green, etc. than a 3 loss Alabama. BUT ... big Media wants Bama so my entire post is moot.
    • Without that game, they weren’t even going to be debated and have an argument though.  So that game still helped their resume .  It was close, easily could have just come down to the randomness of who was on this committee this year and their bias.  I think think this current window will be short regardless.  Current format is dumb.  And college football as we know is breaking anyway.  This format won't last long anyway because the conferences will keep changing. Money is doing what it does.  Already seeing it in recruiting.   Eventually, there is just going to be a "main conference".  Boise St isn't going to belong in the same realm a Bama is operating in.  They won't have the money, players and then no resume to even justify being in the talk even with a perfect record.
