What does the rule say now?  Isn’t  there something about control but the ball can move? Idk someone edumicate me plz.

Quote

COMPLETED OR INTERCEPTED PASS

A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) in the field of play, at the sideline, or in the end zone if a player, who is inbounds:

a. secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and

b. touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and

c. after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, performs any act common to the game (e.g., tuck the ball away, extend it forward, take an additional step, turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so.

Notes:

Movement of the ball does not automatically result in loss of control.
If a player, who satisfied (a) and (b), but has not satisfied (c), contacts the ground and loses control of the ball, it is an incomplete pass if the ball hits the ground before he regains control, or if he regains control out of bounds
A receiver is considered a player in a defenseless posture (See 12-2-7) throughout the entire process of the catch and until the player is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent.
If a pass is caught simultaneously by two eligible opponents, and both players retain it, the ball belongs to the passers. It is not a simultaneous catch if a player gains control first and an opponent subsequently gains joint control. If the ball is muffed after simultaneous touching by two such players, all the players of the passing team become eligible to catch the loose ball.
If a player, who is in possession of the ball, is held up and carried out of bounds by an opponent before both feet or any part of his body other than his hands touches the ground inbounds, it is a completed or intercepted pass. It is not necessary for the player to maintain control of the ball when he lands out of bounds.
ARTICLE 4. INCOMPLETE PASS
Any forward pass (legal or illegal) is incomplete and the ball is dead immediately if the pass strikes the ground or goes out of bounds. An incomplete pass is a loss of down, and the ball returns to the previous spot.

Note: If there is any question whether a forward pass is complete, intercepted, or incomplete, it is to be ruled incomplete.

so basically it's still a bit subjective. refs interpret it. don't expect that to be done fairly or consistently.

I think Mr Scott was just referring to Thielen being a veteran presence who doesn't have super speed, but knows how to get open and makes the clutch catches, and not so much to the skill levels of the individual players.

And Proehl had two really good receivers beside him (Steve Smith and Moose).  Thielen is going to get more targets because the rest of the receiving group isn't at that level.

Pretty much, thanks

    • I think you meant to say - If XL stays on his feet and just catches the ball with his hands and walk into the endzone to take the lead, and the defense doesn't give up a FG with 45 seconds remaining in the game. Agree. I don't get why folk are hating on Bryce right now. I was down on him after the first 2 games. But he's playing really good football right now. Really good.
    • maybe.  Texas did have a bad day....but were lucky to have a bad vs another team also having a bad day.  A&M didn't muster a single offensive point that game.  Not even a FG.   To me, I don't think a single team in this playoff can have a bad day vs an opponent having a good day.  And the CFP has generally had teams that could navigate those days.    maybe I will end up liking the 12 team format.  I think the format clearly works against the better teams though.  Let's say it runs chalk to the final 4.  Odds are you still end up w/ someone getting beat up by the time they get to the final 4.... and that team might of been FSU'd had it been known.
    • A you’re a real life hater I have a couple buddies like you but least we can be real about it when we talk to each other.  We’ve been looking good because teams are overlooking us man I’ve seen silly sht before then there’s your azz, Philly playing for number two seed overall maybe number one if Detroits falters anywhere in the next five games while Minn is tied with Philly for 2nd seed. With all that at stake they literally overlooked us Vic Fangio known as a top defensive coordinator didn’t have his guys ready. KC coming off a loss didn’t take us seriously bc they just lost and had a post buffalo hangover the best team in the last 3 years had a hangover from one loss when they play for field position each year in the playoffs, lets get this right a team who we know is going for home field throughout the entire playoffs has a chance to loose that with a loss to us a week after losing and they’re still thinking about the game from the previous week oh ok. I use to joke about yall using mushrooms before responding on here but you’re taking it to a level of drug use I can’t comprehend that sounds so got d dumb one team was having a losing hangover the other was unfocused from winning wtf man just stop it’s getting closer to goofy talk then football talk.  Our 6 week stretch of playing good football is partially about other teams not taking us serious (proper motivation/lack of focus from our opponents) So each team we’ve faced recently is coming in unprepared from coaching bc that’s a coaching issue to not have your guys locked in and ready to play. 6 different teams including the back to back champs Unprepared best coach in the league didn’t have his guys ready Tampa a top five offense didn’t have their guys ready to play so that’s why we ended up in OT about to win until Chubba coughed up the rock yea I see how they didn’t take us seriously. That argument works in the NBA it doesn’t fly in the NFL that much especially not 6 weeks in a row. The Not For Long league means you preform subpar a couple games in a row you’re likely going to be cut or out the league real real fast every play every game matters tremendously in the NFL rarely do you see a team say oh we didn’t have it today maybe a quarter or a half but with only 17 games a season you know to be focused as ever each week bc your jobs always on the line. You don’t have to give any credit to the Panthers just please stop saying the stupidest thing you can think of to discount how we’ve played since Bryce has settled down and sees the field much better and our defense got a little healthier. I guess this weekend you’ll say Dallas wanted to lose to move up in draft placement when we beat the cowboys in Dallas I can’t wait to hear your goofy assessment of why we won it’s becoming comedy you making excuses for how we’ve preformed. Denial is a ugly place to live in but only you can pull yourself up out of that dark place.
