Depends on if we are in position to draft Tmac. I'm convinced we have to jump New England to be in position to realistically draft him.

If New England is picking ahead of us I think we have to pursue Higgins in that case.

I still think NE would be more likely to draft an LT or Hunter over T-Mac, as much as he'd be a perfect fit for Jones.

They need to protect their QB, and for a defensive first time HC, I'd be surprised if he went QB and then WR with his first two 1st round picks as HC.  If he went offense again, I think it would be in the trenches to protect his franchise QB, and if not, he'd go defense.

This is where the drafting of Bryce comes into play. At some point he's going to have to elevate the players around him. We can't afford to keep stacking the offense in FA and ignore the defense. We've spent a lot on him already from having a very expensive oline, drafting a receiver in the 1st in XL, Brooks in th 2nd, paying Chuba, Mingo, trading away DJ, Sanders, were going to have to pay BC. That's a lot on the offensive side of the ball. Scoring points is great but if you can't stop anyone you're kind of screwed and we can't stop anyone at RB.

That's a hard call to make but NE has lacked a true WR1 for so long. Tackle is such a tempting spot, but as we've seen they really take a couple years to get to NFL speed unless you get a Sewell or Slater, and then you're close to the end of that rookie QB contract.

Why would they pass on a better prospect?

Usually when you are drafting top 5 you go for best prospect.

I haven't seen any tackles rated higher than Tmac so far.

I only mentioned Higgins if we can't draft Tmac.

Also if you have been following me I have been saying go all defense in FA and draft if we can get Tmac with our 1st.

If not we have to pursue Higgins. The offense is still missing that elite WR. The defense will be addressed in the draft.

Because not having an OL can ruin a young QB faster than not having a WR can

And for a defensive HC, protecting his QB and building through the trenches seems like something he might prefer, NE has had one of the worst OL's this year

@CamWhoaaCam  You love to reference college stats and Heisman positioning, but you realize that the following player.........

13-16 career W-L record, best season in college was 65% completion, 5k yards, 41 TDs, 10 INTs, 260 yards rushing, 12 rushing TDs, never had a single Heisman vote

Is possibly the greatest NFL player of all time

While the following player........

48-7 career W-L record, best season in college was 67% completion, 3.2k yards, 32 TDs, 6 INTs, 900 yards rushing, 23 rushing TDs, and was a Heisman winner, Heisman 3rd place, and Heisman 5th place

Is a player who only lasted 3 years in the NFL

Right?

That first player is Mahomes, the second is The Golden Calf of Bristol.

Stop pointing towards college stats and Heisman positioning as arguments for how they project at the NFL level.  Sure stats are fun to look at and can give you an idea about a player, but the college game is crazy, stats are very misleading at that level.

I think our wide receiver group is ok for now.  I think the offense is ok for now for the most part.  What we need is defensive front 7 and maybe a safety.  Pick the BPA that helps the defensive front 7 at the top spot, and focus mostly on defense.  That being said, if a solid oline player, is available in the 3rd or 4th round and they take him, I won't be

Higgins is going to be 18-20m a year, maybe higher. The defense can't be primarily rookies. The jump from college to the pros is big and very few players make that transition in a single season. Plus, statistically, Morgan would have to have one of the greatest drafts in history to be able to plug that many holes by defying the %'s of round failure.

We're not a WR away from winning it all. Higgins is a SB move for a team that's close. We're re better off building through the draft and paying good contracts for appropriate level talent. When we've made the playoffs, then we need to start pursuing bigger name free agents. We've got to have strong rookies on cheap contracts to go after big names and have it actually work in our favor.

I said depending on our draft position. I'm not saying sign Higgins as plan A. If we are in position to draft Tmac then you obviously sign some defensive talent in FA and use the draft to add more pieces to the defense.

Cmon man you're not reading my comments carefully.

Every time Hunter comes up you talk about his college game, his college stats, his Heisman position, etc

Not one bit of any of that matters, that's the point.

So let me get this straight his film, on field production, and winning basically the MVP of college football means nothing.

Gauudamn I love this place. If that's the case I'm just wasting my time going back n forth with you.

If we can't talk about his production on field then there is no way I can win this debate in your eyes.

So you win I lose end of discussion.

    • When we drafted Luke, we already had Cam, Smith, Olsen, Stewart, Deangleo, Gross, Kalil, CJ, Hardy, Beason, TD, Gamble (and maybe more I'm forgetting), we had a lot of great pieces in place. Going pure BPA for a player with Luke's potential when the LB you already have is different when you already have all those pieces in place.  Our OL right now is probably in a better shape than that team and our RBs and TE have potential compared to proven vets back then, but after that, the 2012 roster was in a far better shape than we are right now. We need a #1 WR, DEs, LBs, DBs, C, and depending who you ask a QB.  Going BPA at pick #5 when that player is a DT and your current best player on either side of the ball is a DT, seems irresponsible. If he's the only player they like that high left, then you trade back and go with position of more need at a slot that makes sense for the player while adding other picks.  If you trade back and he falls because other teams don't need/want a DT, then you consider him at that point because of the value.
    • This sounds like the same back and forth when we drafted a LB when we already had a LB or as mentioned prior back to back DLs. I want the BPA, if it is another DT so be it. (No not a kicker/punter for those people that think they are funny))
