Mason Graham Bandwagon

Recommended Posts

We're already adding an elite run stuffer by getting DB back. Also, interior defensive linemen take as long to develop as any position in the NFL. Throwing a rookie at it isn't going to immediately solve the problem, so we might as well just grab a developmental run-stuffer later in the draft. Use premium picks on premium positions.

Mason Graham is the perfect fit. Dude plays angry and would bring more “dawg” to this team. For those saying we don’t need him bc we have Brown, do y’all not remember teams still gashing us up the middle before Brown got hurt? You’d have to double team one of them but couldn’t do both. I get we need edge rushers too but if u are taking BPA, it’d be so hard to pass up on a guy who we know would instantly upgrade this line considerably. Last night when it was looking like we were about to win, I was thinking we’d need a gas mask leak on draft night for him to fall to us. Looks like he’s still within reach!

This makes perfect sense.  However, some are focused on DT and others are focused on the big picture--what do you NOT do to do the think you do?  In my view, I go by something I call position rarity--first, a franchise qb--and next, Left Tackle--after that, Edge.  You never pass on Edge and take a DT when DTs are easier to find.  So that is the only reason I would not take this "dawg." He is a beast and I would love to have him, but if it costs me an elite WR or a Edge, I have to painfully pass.  The bigger question, in my view--what do we do if Bryce continues to play at his current level and Ward and/or Sanders is sitting there?

If we drafted Graham I have no problem at all with it.  He is difference maker

I would understand it--especially if DJ Johnson, Barno, and Wonnum finish strong.  Graham, however, might not be the best fit for Carolina with Brown back.  Our DTs have underperformed (Tuttle, Robinson) and they can be cut and save about $13m, or one can be cut and save $6.5m.  Who might be a better fit than Graham?   Maybe the guy beside him--Graham's sidekick, Kenneth Grant, is also a beast.  You could argue that he benefited by playing with Graham, just as he would in Carolina beside Brown.  However, teams like to double the big NT/3 tech, and if you do that, you get Browned.  Grant is a 340 lb DT who has 3 sacks this year--against Ohio State, Saturday, he had 5 QB pressures--and he has been doing that all year.  They could not block him.  If you want a player who compliments Brown (as opposed to rotating in with him) I would take a long look at Grant--in round two if he is there--after drafting an Edge in round 1.  In my view, THAT would solve the running game issues and give us pocket collapsing pressure up the A gap.  There is also a DT from Kentucky I like in this role, but Graham is good.

I once again wake up eat my breakfast and then read bs…man your logic only works in your head I can give you multiple examples but I’ll start with one easy clear example of it matters who you’re getting and what you’re planning on doing. Jadevon C and Khalil Mack were drafted before Aaron Donald 2014 biggest mistake of the draft as we look back and redraft or whatever. It doesn’t make sense to take a DE over a DT thats a stud game changing elite defensive player. You can’t draft of generalization typically you want a DE first but nowadays DT are just as impactful so you better choose right LA got a chip bc of Donald meanwhile K Mack is on his second team and J Clowney on his third  team. We don’t draft positions we draft elite prospects Graham seems to be a more productive disruptive player than either DE we may get. A Carter who I want is a Micah P clone they say I can see him impacting the pass game but the run game might leave him as a non factor. And right now our main focal point on defense this offseason will be stopping the run. We’ll be able to create pressure with A Barno back Wonnum healthy and a mix of blitzing which has helped us generate pass rush lately.

Graham if he allows us to stop the run and he generates a pass rush himself which at Michigan he’s know to do both consistently helps our defense then start controlling games would be a better pick then Carter for us moving forward so let’s dive deeper then just pick a DE over a DT because there’s so many factors to weigh out with these top ten picks in the nfl draft.

And to follow up that thought for the sake of conversation would anyone in here rather have Chase Young then Derrick B these last couple of years. Just another example of how drafting DE just because you think you draft a DE first shows how that thought process leaves a team set back. If we can end up at 3/4 and trade back and acquire an additional 2nd we could really fill out our roster but if not take Graham if he checks out let’s start controlling both lines of scrimmage 3 downs straight getting the ball back to our dare I say explosive offense (lol). He seems like the perfect fit we definitely need a DE a very good one drafted early but Wonnum has shown up since returning putting him next to Brown should look real real good. Put him next to two dominate run stuffing/pass rushing DTs and the other side can be manned by a complimentary group of guys DJ Johnson, Barno/Clowney/FA addition. Isn’t it easier to manufacture pass rush pressure then stop the run, but we’ll see which way we go in April.

So you are under the impression that your logic is all that matters.  Interesting.  Learn to consider alternative opinions without taking it personally.  You will be much better off and less of a dick.

Brown is a DE.  Wonnum is not a DE. Perhaps you should learn the roles and responsibilities--or the nomenclature--of the 3-4 defense before you call others out for expressing omniscient condemnation of a widely held opinion about the needs of the team.

Man I’m not trying to be a dck my bad, just talking a little smack but I was serious about the benefits of Graham over Carter based off how much he can impact winning for us next season.

That’s not going to work we’re talking draft positions when drafted Brown was/is a Defensive Tackle and DJ Wonnum is definitely a DE. When drafting this year Grahams a clear DT and A Carter is a clear DE if Carter comes in and plays DE/LB oh ok big deal you know what I mean as far as contributing to winning ways. Not playing the semantics game what player do you think will impact winning next season more MG or AC?
