Probably but he has flashed some.  He's a 2nd year player.   Certainly shown that he's an NFL QB.  Almost 3 years older than Bryce so not as much room for growth.   I'd say Bryce has the significantly higher ceiling.

And sure.   I agree.   He needs to continue to show this growth to get people to buy in.

The Eagles is an outlier.  That game will be extremely ugly.

I think his play has earned him the chance to compete for starting spot next year with whomever the team brings back.   And it has given the team the luxury of not feeling QB desperate in the draft.

****Unless he completely falls off the planet again and reverts back to what he was, then it's QB time in the draft again***

The Eagles have been an up and down team there's no telling which version of them we'll get. But it is a home game for them so that atmosphere is going to be tough. If Bryce can at least have us competing and keeping it close I will feel good about him going forward. But I do wonder what Canales confidence level in this offense is. He's gotta realize this team only has 3 wins. Take some risks. See what your group is made of. The conservative stuff is more of the same that this beleaguered fanbase doesn't need.

We are in agreement. He will be here to compete next year regardless. All I've maintained is that unless he finishes looking stellar we should not sit on our hands again in relation to the rest of the QB room. That's all. Appreciate the convo.

I'm talking eye test. He is playing significantly more poised in the pocket and making better decisions which is great. He's also hitting open players down field, which is great too and he wasn't doing before getting benched. But I have still yet to see him actually threaten a defense in any way. He's taking the plays that are there. In today's NFL you need a QB who is actually a threat. I just still don't see it with Bryce even with his much improved play this past month or so.

You're correct. He shows flashes. Maybe 1 play every 4 to 5 drives.

If you were a coaching staff facing a QB who only passes for a TD on 15% of their drives, completes less than 60% of his passes, and has a redzone TD% of less than 25% while getting to the redzone 30% of their drives, what's your game plan?

He's not allowed to earn my respect back by playing better?

Kind of hard to keep bashing him when he's clearly been playing better.

I'm a fair minded individual. Play bad I will trash you. Play good I will praise you.

My brother in Christ you won't praise them if they're good. You'll say that everybody else is pathetic. 😛

I think regardless of if you've got your QB1 or not, you always need to be trying to groom someone to be able to step up into the QB1 position. Brady was a perfect example of how important that was. Down week 1, insert Matt Cassel, and they were off to an 11-5 season that should have had them in the playoffs. Cam showed us the opposite side of that situation. His shoulder was destroyed by TJ Watt and we've been bumbling and fumbling ever since. Having a vet presence like Dalton is nice for a few games, but you always have to be trying to get the next guy ready.

Absolutely I agree completely. As far as Cam goes you are right even though at the time I would have probably said it's a luxury we can't afford. But we should have been trying to develop someone behind Cam at least beginning in 2017 or so. I think that was a tough sell all around because of how large Cam loomed personality wise. But still it should have been in motion for the good of the team. But it's a far cry from where we are now. We are not in a position at QB where we can say trying to develop another guy is a luxury. We absolutely need a fallback plan this go around. And I agree Andy Dalton and Jack Plummer do not qualify as that in any way shape or form. If the team repeats that approach in the upcoming offseason I'm going to see it as a slap in the face to the fanbase. Which means it could sadly happen lol.

Even with Cam I don't think it would have been a hard sell. He always loomed larger than life, but most people that understand football understand the reality of the game. One wrong hit, one wrong step, and a career can be over. It's the thing I've been frustrated about most with every GM we've ever had, including Morgan to this point. We never really developed the QB room. We relied on our starters and when Jake and Cam fell apart, so did the franchise. That's the one position that you can't really afford not to develop a plan B, but we do it with regularity.

Dalton wasn't supposed to be a serious threat to Bryce's job and Jack was never a threat to be anything at all. JMO, but we should always have a young guy we're trying to keep on the bench with at least 2 years in the system. If they're not getting it, move on, but always keep rotating guys through. It seems like 2-3 years really is the magic point for QBs to either get a handle or not. It's probably not going to happen, but I'd really like to see that 3rd QB emergency slot become a permanent place to work on developing young QBs. I think it could benefit every team in the league because it's so hard to carry 3 QBs on the roster with all the turn over during the season due to injuries.

You are hitting on all cylinders here my friend. I'm with you.

2016 was a very sobering season that realistically should have brought about a proper investment in developing another QB.

My main concern with hiring Morgan aside from his role in our drafts with Fitterer was just how hellbent he might be on trying to salvage a trade and selection he was very much an integral part of. We'll just have to see how different he will ultimately be from our previous GM's. So far he's not exactly breaking any mold with the heavy investment in running back.
