Bryce contingency plan?

Recommended Posts

Honestly Bryce is a conundrum right now I'm not really sure what we should do with him but I am content on him being the quarterback number one going into next season. I think we should allow him the chance to play out the season to prove that he's the quarterback he can be going into next season.

I would not waste a high draft pick on a quarterback because I'm not sure anyone in this up and coming class is as good or has the ceiling that he had with that said I wouldn't throw away the future I would bring in someone like Justin Fields to have him looking over his shoulder and give us a plan b if everything doesn't go right on a one-year deal.

I think the priority right now if tepper wants to make a big splash is find a way to get Travis Hunter that would be option 1AA because he helps with both sides of the field either way whatever you need defense or offense. Make that happen and then go mostly defense the rest of the way and we're cooking.

I must have young bias bc everytime he takes the field all i see is modern day jimmy clausen.  He is 32 in qbr in the league.  He had a few ok games and several horrific games.  J fields failed with bears and pitts dont see how he would become better with the panthers.  I will say staying put with young and bringing in fields at a high salary does sound like a tepper move though lol. With all that said if panthers win remaining games and young passes fof 300 yards and looks good then i will return to admit i was wrong.

Will he keep this up? Who knows. He's had a few decent and one good game. If he keeps trending in this direction I think we go with a veteran and late round development QB if one falls we really like. If he reverts back to early season play, I wouldn't mind earlier investment in a QB because he has had a lot of time to show consistency.

I like Bryce and I'm glad he's shown some good strides the last few games, but I'm all in on going QB in the first round.

The Clausen comparison, which I've seen here many times, is hyperbolic to put it nicely. As bad as Young was last year, Clausen only eclipsed Young's overall QB rating for the season twice. His best QB ratings were 110, 90, and 76. Everything else was below 70 and most were below 50.

I mean, Young has had some extremely low ratings...

Yeah, everyone knew Pickles was bad about as soon as he stepped on the field, but I'm sure that many felt something similar after Bryce's first three starts. That being said, we had a whole lot more invested into Bryce, so of course he was destined to get a commensurate opportunity to show us what he's got. I'm still not sold on Young. Lightning will have to strike about five more times before I'm 75 percent in. I may not ever be fully in because of his size (and I haven't seen him "walk on water" yet).

I figure we'll get Fields (as our situation won't be conducive to acquiring Sanders or Ward), and I'll be OK with that...for now.

Call me nuts but I still think Sam Howell has a future and a huge upside. His first year starting in Washington with that crap offensive line, he performed pretty damn well. His TD's were up there as well as his passing yards. If he can control those Ints, he could be a very good QB in my opinion. Gun slinger mentality and not afraid to go for it. I still want him and still believe in him as well as have a feeling he could be had for cheap. His story is not yet written and the right coach could possibly get some serious production out of him. And no I am no Tarheels fan at all. I'm a fan of only one university because of my history there and ties to it so this is not a homer post. I simply respect his game.

Howell is a good example of what I would describe as comparitive inconsistency in the way he is regarded. He had one season to show what he could do and was sacked as much as Bryce was and while he had dicey decision making at times with risky throws he was undoubtedly moving the ball as he was 12th in yards and yards per game for the season while completing 63.4% of his passes. I don't think it's fair for anyone to say he is a bust and should never get another shot while turning around and affording Bryce Young chance after chance. Just keeping it real.

He's not really a conundrum, he has played 2 games where he looked like he could be a NFL starting QB, then he has 22 games of looking like a backup or that he doesn't even belong in the league. Some of those games feature some of the worst QB play you will ever see.

We have to bring in someone to compete for the spot next season, either a rookie or FA.

Would love the panthers to get howell.  Everyone always wanting fields howell did more than fields with way less opportunities

Regardless of what Bryce does, the team should always be seeking improvement. We need a vet that doesn't bleed dust and a 3rd young QB to groom. Howell is an intriguing option if he could be had for a reasonable price.

I don't want to ever rely solely on BY or any other QB for that matter. We've all seen the importance of grooming a backup when Brady went down week 1 and the Pats still won 11.

Doesn't matter if it's FA, the draft or even a trade. Try and find someone who can fit the system, plug him in and see what happens. We should always be trying to improve our situation.
