Let what go?

You have some type of hate for dude. This is just an appreciation thread for one of the most loved HC's under the Tepper era. Players loved that guy.

How about before that era when he made McDermott's defense worse

I'm talking about something more recent.

What the hell happened to the 49ers defense?

They got to the SB with Wilks and just fell off the following season. I thought he was the issue?

For one, I think with all the Fred Warner talk (and rightfully so).....people overlook how important his partner in the middle was/is.  that kid that tore his achillies in the Super Bowl.  He has been out all year.

I don't think the Panthers thought Wilks was the issue.   I just think they thought he wasn't the coach for the future.  Those are different things.   I don't think they were wrong.

Agreed. Someone is reading a lot more into the story than is actually there.

I get the sentiment but how is working for UNC Charlotte “doing just fine”?

I mean if you consider like showing up and collecting a paycheck a win, sure.

There is a reason he isn’t working in the NFL.

I'm not saying he should be working in the NFL. He did deserve some criticism as DC there. But Kyle Shanahan certainly did use him as a convenient scapegoat. Now there is no one left to throw under the bus.

Anyways he could find his way back to the league in some capacity who knows. But he's old school and in the NFL you either adjust or you get left behind. All the same no hard feelings toward him he's a good guy.

Bro he was the DC of a team that made the SB.

What exactly do you have to do to be successful at your job?

Are you telling me this dude has to win a SB just to say he's good at coaching?

Yall say Shannahan is one of the best HC's in football he has yet to win a SB and he's had stacked rosters.

So when Wilks leads a defense to a SB and that same defense gets worst the following year doesn't that say he was doing something right?

I agree but he might have been a nice transitional coach. He definitely seemed to be in the Fox/Rivera mold but those defensive players coaches have a nice appeal.

I can not like Shanahan and also admit he has been one of the more innovative head coaches in the league. But he is also unequivocally a choke artist in the biggest game. They lost for a number of reasons and ultimately it falls on him. Still. Wilks isn't in the league right now. If you want to argue he's being unfairly pushed out or something that's your prerogative.
