Imagine simping for a average to below average coach because he gives you a hard on.

Wilks had a shot and blew it, multiple times.

Hai guyz let's all act like the reason the 49ers record isn't top of the league is because they got rid of wilks, then let's make our 4th thread praising a coach who belongs in the 80s

Thanksgiving is tomorrow this guy sure looks like he's in a Thankful mood.

Only Wilks can turn an appreciation thread into a hate thread.

What did this guy do to people that his name just pisses people off?

He's genuinely more hated than Frank and Rhule lol.

No he’s not, but people are just sick of hearing people slob his knob when he wasn’t any good. He wasn’t a good DC, he wasn’t a good HC. Every defense he takes over regresses, even the 49ers last year who had enough talent to not let that regression keep them down.

People DEFINITELY hate Rhule a LOT more. Frank was here like 11 games, he doesn’t deserve love or hate. He’s just a blip. Wilks had years of evidence of mediocrity to make people confused why folks would be hyping him up.

You can say what you want about Wilks, I know what I saw here , he took Rhules mess and turned it into a near playoff run

The Defense played better under Wilks, Sam played better under Wilks

He should have been the hire instead of Riech , who I was against because if he was another teams reject , like we had been failing with Rhule, but he didn't get the QB he wanted , and had Tepper undermining him at every turn, I would have gave up also

I think Brady and Evans torching us 3 times with the same play lost Wilks the job, but I put that on the sorry DBs we had at the time

I don't think the Panthers thought Wilks was the issue.   I just think they thought he wasn't the coach for the future.  Those are different things.   I don't think they were wrong.

Same...

With the personnel the Niners had, that defense could have been historically good in the right hands. Under Wilks they were certainly good, they didn't quite rise to that level.

Honestly, I see Wilks kinda like I see Rivera: fantastic person, decent head coach. Skill wise, phenomenal DB coach, so-so DC.

His greatest strength is his leadership. Hard to find many better in that department. In the Xs and Os / execution area though, not as good.

Bottom Line: Wilks is the sort of coach that needs a staff that excels in those aspects of the game where he's weaker. But, like Rivera, I don't know that he scouts assistants very well.

That as much as anything might be why he's not in the NFL now.
