49ers fired him bc he was doing good?

He was the scapegoat because Shanahan failed as the OC. The defense wasn’t the issue in San Fran. Scoring defense is how the best defenses are rated. How stingy is our defense when it comes to  giving uppoints.  San Fran was #3 in total defense last year behind the Ravens and Chiefs. This year they tied for 20.

While I didn’t like him as our DC I think it’s fair to say he got a raw deal as HC here and DC there.

49erd fired him because he was the scapegoat for Shannahan failing to win the Big game.

Looks like they miss Wilks on defense if you ask me. But I guess they improved without Wilks in your mind lol

Gawd I love this place!

There's a lot of moving parts on teams. Having lost CMC and Aiyuk for most of the year and having Kittle and his usual injury bug, the offense has taken some hits.

The defense hasn't done as well, but I also remember him getting called out for running such a predictable defense, so much so that Shanahan had to take over calling defense.

From the outside in, he appears to be a players coach, but he was still not my choice if we went defensive head coach. My choice is currently in Houston. Neither here nor there at this point.

I’ve heard from multiple people that he is difficult to work with. As someone who’s been fired from multiple jobs when I knew I was smarter than my boss, I get it.

he got screwed in Arizona, he should have been hired in Carolina after the 2022 season, and he got screwed in SF

if horn didn’t break his arm in a freak injury, panthers hold on to the lead in Tampa, make the playoffs, extend Wilks and Darnold, keep Moore, draft Jalen Carter, and we’re currently in year two of the Pax Pantera.

instead we spent two drafts of picks on a guy who’s best game is league average by any metric. That’s great

Only Wilks can turn an appreciation thread into a hate thread.

What did this guy do to people that his name just pisses people off?

He's genuinely more hated than Frank and Rhule lol.

Dude, Matt Rhule is more hated than any non-Tepper person in the last decade. People do under-appreciate Steve, but I'm not one of them.

Kittles is having a productive year. He missed two games, but he has the most fantasy points from a tight end by a significant margin. Ryans didn’t want to come to Carolina.  He declined the interview. Some coaches (especially former players) have league connections.  I like Canales but I think we would have been further along as an organization if we kept Wiks.

    • Bryce has had this story of being a great leader and a person who his teammates love.  Coaches and media all said some form of after talking with Bryce or spending time with him and it was obvious the type of person and leader he was.  I don't see it from his demeanor and public persona but he might be the type of guy who's much different in person.  With so many people saying some version of this I hope the fans get a glimpse of it some time.
    • Auburn literally could've had 20+ fouls in that half. Hate playing teams like this. They picked up 5-6 quick ones then like always happens the refs start to get whistle shy not wanting to call a foul every possession and they start getting away with murder. The way they call the games encourages this type of play. If they keep fouling just keep calling it.
    • I think last year actually set him back.  Our interior online was one of the worst I've seen.  Combine that with Frank archaic system and about 10 other things and then Canales comes in and implements his system regardless who the players were. A lot of coaches think their system can work with any player and don't do any or as much as they should with tailoring it to fit the player.  Canales admitted that pretty much in our first game but when he scaled it back and Bryce still looked horrible so he was benched.  That move right there is one of the big things that has sold me on Canales.  I judge him based on what he's done since he was renamed the starter.  I probably need to give him a little more rope because it probably seemed in his first game like it was just like last year.  Another new coach with his system and Bryce just went along.  Both the coach and the player are adapting to each other and I think that we are back, baby!!!!  It's just like Drew Brees and Sean Payton except without the mole and the butthole lips.
