NFL athletes are just a different breed. My middle aged ass would have been in surgery that night.

Edit: props to Dan for the type of dudes he’s bringing in.

Yeah. Even if my middle aged ass didn’t require surgery someone would have had to carry me into that building. In my early fifties and  I’m convinced I’ve sustained injuries while sleeping.

Now we know @Panthering is not a doctor. He told us it was for sure a fractured neck smh

Good for Sanders for avoiding a major injury.

Spine has some pretty remarkable compressive capacity, we just don’t like it when it’s from the neck down instead of the lumbar spine up. Every time you jump and land for example your spine has a little movement to it, just because of all the other muscles and bones with connections. When it happens from the cervical spine down, the body freaks out and shuts you down for a little bit to make sure you stop whatever fool thing it is you’re doing.

Injuries occur when there’s lateral force or sheer. Sanders landed almost straight down on the crown of his skull. Lots of force but set up in the way the body is designed to handle. Luckily.

its one of the reasons memorable spinal injuries sometimes looks insignificant. Force isn’t as important as angle.

This is a really good explanation and puts it in good context. Thanks!

was thinking the same thing, JT is far from finished developing, he needs more development.  If it were year 3 maybe, if it were a vet, sure, but a rookie in first season, nah he needs more reps cuzz dang this class could be special.

I agree he could still develop, but I think that could still be developed in practice. Just after a scary injury like that, I'm nervous to see him get reps in a live game situation when the best possible outcome is nothing more than worsening our draft selection.

That said, I'm 100% not a doctor, so if he's clear to play, he wants to play, and there's no potential of aggravating this injury (which by all accounts it doesn't seem that is the case for this type of injury) then go for it, I guess.

But you hit the nail on the head. This draft class is really impressive. I can't remember the last time I was so impressed with a rookie that I'd actually prefer shutting him down. His game is so apparent that he doesn't need to prove anything at this point. Can't remember the last time that happened!

    • With all the money invested in the offensive line, we really need to hit on some Round 1-3 picks.  We could really use a star receiver or pass rusher on a rookie contract for a few years.
    • I understand everyone being happy but let's try not to turn it into another schoolgirl crush festival. No offense. It isn't slower WRs that cause wild overthrows. They have all kinds of practice. It is his mechanics keeping things under control that allows a more efficient conversion of energy, let's call it, into the throw, that we are seeing.  He was doing it with horrible mechanics and needing to put 100% effort to get the ball that far. That totally fugs your accuracy. There is video of Mahomes and Carr on this site that I have linked with them throwing under control vs all out trying to get the most velocity on a radar gun. It shows exactly what I am saying. I didn't make it up. I have been telling y'all for a year at least. It really is all about the margins with Young and he has to be very attentive to his technique to get the most from what he has. He is doing that now and this is the new 'what he can do'. And this is it, there ain't no more. You decide if that's enough for you I guess. But you are noticing better ball flight and zip I am pretty sure, it comes from there. Again go look at the Buffalo drive in preseason and you will see that same thing you see lately. To do that stuff you have to be willing to stand tall come what may, sometimes. Hopefully you have protection to step up safely but the difference making happens when you stand in there and finish just ahead of a hit.  ..... And btw, the straw that broke the camel's back when Tepper fired Reich, was because he couldn't fix it in a week. One of the last issues that I remember was about Young's footwork. You know, I guess it is normal that 10 weeks into the season someone just realized, or finally accepted, that Young had major fundamentals issues. It took them a lot longer to realize it isn't an overnight fix. And my issues with Young were specifically over this stuff. Major rehab job, you don't pay what we paid for that. Hopefully he is 'fixed' and it 'took' and he doesn't go back into his little safe space of the old mechanics like he did week 1. If he hangs with the new, this is what you are working wth now. We just saw his ceiling.
    • i'm not nearly 100%, but i'm trending that way. He's definitely got me around 75%.
