Eh I HATE the drew brees comparisons and don’t use them for Bryce, but saying Bryce can never develop into 3 of the most athletic freaks of nature to ever step foot on the field, doesn’t mean anything on if he can be a Super Bowl winning QB

a close game vs KC….Gardner Menshew did that too.  LV isn’t thinking they might have something. 
 

 

I am still not sure he is the guy.

But 263 yards and more importantly, 27 points,  against one of the best defenses in the NFL with relatively little support from the run game and a mostly young raw receiving corps is better than just ok.  

While overall I thought Canales did a good job today, I do think we should have run the ball a little more in the red zone.  Six first qtr plays in the red zone, 1 run, 5 passes.  I know KC has an excellent run defense, but still got to balance it out a little better.  

In the second half, when in the red zone, they had 4 passes and five runs, and scored td's two of the three red zone trips.

At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6.

Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.

I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out  

That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.

Here’s another that we fans should keep in mind:

Sometimes greatness takes time. Mahomes had the benefit of sitting a season behind Alex Smith after the Chiefs traded up to take him with the 10th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Young, last year’s top pick, started 16 games as a rookie, going 2-14, absorbing 62 sacks and posting the league’s worst passer rating.

Some of us may forget when Drew Brees “wasn’t” the great QB we faced in New Orleans. Prior to his HOF career, he was an afterthought in Dan Diego that was particularly liked by his coach Marty Schottenheimer. 
But we all see how that turned out. 

Bryce may never be the 2nd coming of Brees but let’s give him and the staff time to help him reach his potential.

When Young plays well he reminds me of Teddy B when he played for the Vikings. Small arm but accurate. You need a good D to go with because you will be kicking lots of field goals.

Here's some of what he did:

Drove down the field in 44 seconds for a score at the end of the 1st half.

Led the Panthers on a 9 minute drive to start the 3rd finishing off with a TD pass to Moore. 

That's 10 straight points.

In the fourth he drove the field leading to 3 and then on the very next drive drove the field leading to a TD to tie the game. Again, that's 10 straight points.

I am not saying it was perfect - but surely that is better than just okay 

Because I’m not judging what he is based off the bar being on the floor or even one game.  

I still think we are entering a worst case scenario….where we know a QB doesn’t have the tools and actual ability to be great and our plans get messed up because he is okay sometimes. 

He played a surprisingly good game. That’s it. It wasn’t great.  He isn’t special.  

we got in the redzone 6 times.  How did he look there? 4 FGs.  A PI into the redzone and Hubbard run from the 1.   That’s okay.  That’s not great.  That’s why we lost essentially.

Bryce has been a completely different QB since coming back. That started in Denver where it was obviously he was playing a lot more loose and willing to push the ball downfield 

Bryce continues to build off of the previous weeks performance and that’s what you want to see

Bryce has been making some real good anticipation throws. Reading defenses well. Pushing the ball downfield (7 throws of 20+ air yards yesterday. 8 if you want to include PI to Thielen). The deep ball accuracy has been there. Some of Young’s best throws yesterday were incompletions. Sideline balls to XL and Moore both should’ve been caught. RZ dot to Tremble should’ve been caught. And another RZ ball to Moore that Young gave him a chance at.

Bryce is starting to execute Canales offense and yesterday Canales finally opened it up a bit. Canales was to blame for the 126 passing yards in Germany as he played a more conservative game. 

The next bit I’m looking for his for Young to be a bit more decisive with running the ball. Start putting that on film and it’ll help open things up a tad

He's definitely getting better. It's fun to watch. 

I've been getting killed for this take, but with the current state of college football, it just takes more time to develop a quarterback. I don't think it's a plug and play position anymore. I'm really not sure if it ever was. NFL offenses have always been substantially more complex than the college game, and the college game has simplified even more in recent years. Many college teams do not have a physical playbook anymore. That's just not the national football league. 

Are there freaks who have success from day 1? Yes, without question. But so many of those guys are runners, and so many of those guys tail off. Is Bryce ever going to be Josh Allen? Probably not. 

What I am seeing is a guy with complete command of the offense. He's checking into things at the line, making adjustments, and making timely throws.  He goes to David Moore a ton, because Moore is a consistent route runner. Bryce knows where he is and when he should be open. I think the guy with the "super processor" needs to be comfortable in the offense in order to do the "super processing." He doesn't have elite arm talent, and he is small of stature, but if he makes the smart play consistently, and he's willing to throw the ball downfield and not make mistakes, like he's starting to show, he's going to be a starter for a long time in this league, and it's not a position I'd spend draft capital right now.
