Tom Pelissero: Ejiro Evero name to watch when coaching cycle commences

Recommended Posts

"Two seasons in Carolina have brought similar team-wide frustrations -- compounded by injuries and other personnel limitations -- but effort from [Ejiro] Evero's players is never an issue. Under first-year HC Dave Canales in 2024, Evero is effectively the head coach of the defense. He has trained under great coordinators, including Vic Fangio and Dom Capers, giving him a unique blend of perspectives. And interest in the league hasn't waned: Evero has interviewed for eight head-coaching jobs over the past two cycles, earning second interviews with the Colts, Falcons, Panthers, Seahawks and Texans."

It’s hard to say how good/bad EE is with the lack of talent and the plenty of injuries on his side of the ball.

I have not enjoyed his soft zone tendencies or his inability to scheme any kind of rush but I’ll again hold my peace on that due to the personnel he has to work with.

It seems his biggest attribute at the moment is his consistency and tenure.

Good. GTFO.

People saying this have no idea, Evero may be the most respected name on Defense around the league not already a head coach right now. His body of work speaks for itself. He kept our crappy defense together with Smoke and Mirrors last season.

we were the 4th Ranked defense last year despite having a terrible offense which continually put them in bad positions(why we ranked so poorly in PPG). Baring Evero getting a HC job. We need to to keep him here if possible.

I think his strong suit will always be making a bad team play better than they should.  Give him a great defense and it's not going to look a lot different I don't think.   I just don't like his scheme personally.

I mentioned that I thought teams wouldn't care about the Panthers' defensive ranking, recognizing that it was a talent issue rather than a scheming issue.

That said, Evero is a good coach but its going to be tough sell fans coming for the Panthers

The 4th ranked defense is an illusion. Teams didn't put tons of yards up simply because they didn't have to. When an opponent needed to score they usually did with ease.
