What if Panthers had that 17th pick?

I hear where you are coming from, but I am not buying that one just yet.

I will start looking around, because I can't think clearly right now, to see....but we may have one of the bottom 5 TE situations in the NFC right now.

Not saying that we do, but I am thinking of many in the NFC that are in much better shape than we are right now.

What is scary about that, is we really don't have another proven weapon outside of Smith to catch the ball either.

Surely that can't be right. Like I said its not there fault they never get gameplaned into or get thrown to. Rosario proved in 08 against the Chargers (along with countless other times) that he was an outstanding receiving TE so did Bardnidge. They both couldn't see the field because King is just that good of a blocker (he's like having a 6th olineman out there) he also has some good hands just not much of an athlete.

IMO we have a great TE corp with tons of potential in fact outside of maybe Jimmy Graham and Hernandez I really wouldn't choose any TE in this draft over what we have.

This is obviously based on stats. Our team is a running team. TE's primary responsibility is to block which Jeff King does well. If I remember correctly our TE's had over 700 yds receiving and 5 TD (I didn't go get actual number just going of memory) Not bad for a TE group that main job is to block.

TE should be a priority about as much as MLB or Tackle.

Using this same scenario. What if he stayed at Florida State. Brown would have dominated. He would have been in the same sentence with all the top defensive players in the draft.

If we had the 17th pick DE would be on our top priority list and Brown would be on that list.

We got the player we wanted a year early and was able to get a years worth of experience out of him. In the end we benefitted from this trade.

Also we added Goodson which made the deal sweeter.

No way in anyones right mind would they take Brown over Brandon Graham. They both have about the same upside and Graham is far better all-around DE (about the same pass rushing and is far better at containment and run defense).

I like Everette Brown. Many had him as the best DE last year. What dropped his stock was he is a FSU guy (not a good pedigree for DE's) and his supposed lack of size. The fact is i see tons of guys this year with similar size. I think we got a steal.

That said if we had our first back i think Earl Thomas would be our pick. Harris and Thomas would be ridiculous. Martin and Godfrey have done decent jobs at FS but Thomas is amazing. Plus Martin and Godfrey could play some CB. IMO he is neck to neck with Eric Berry as far as potential. Meeks's defense loves to have a talented and quick back 7. Thomas, Harris, Gamble, Davis and Beason would fit the profile.

But if we had that 1st back we would not have a DE in the wings when Pep left. And our hands might have been tied to take a Brandon Graham or Dunlap. So it's E. Brown and i for one am excited to see what he can do with more playing time.

From what I read about him, I don't see a difference? The fact that Brown came out early. Brown would have been #1 DE off the board if he came out in 2010 instead of 2009. His 1st step is one of the best I have ever seen.

Your opinion and as we have already seen you and I don't agree on much.

That proves you have no idea what your talking about. Brown wouldn't even get a sniff before Morgan.

I just think its funny because Brown's last year at FSU he had 13.5 sacks. If you compare those numbers to any other DE in the draft...he had as many or more.

He is 6'4'' 260lbs right now compared to:

Derrick Morgan: 6'4'' 270 12.5 sacks

Brandon Graham: 6'2'' 263 10.5 sacks

Jerry Hughes: 6'3'' 257 13.5 sacks

Jason Pierre-Paul: 6'6'' 260 6.5 sacks

So, basically this year we have a bunch of guys who are about the same size with about the same stats (or less) and one guy who is a physical specimen who has never done anything in college worthy of being mentioned as elite other than hitting the weight room.

Give me a break...I'll take Everette any day of the week in our Cover 2.

Brown is 6'1 and would have been a 2nd round pick

Yeah his numbers are good but look at Hughes.Numbers are even better and he is said to be a late 1st to 2nd round pick..

You know what Everette Brown is a Panther. It is all water under the bridge therefore Brown IS the best DE for us. Comparing this class to last year is redundant. BUT if someone had wanted to this would be the way it could look. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft09/columns/story?columnist=mcshay_todd&id=3700830

Point being E is gonna be fine and half you doubters will be falling all over yourselves to get a jersey.

You bash his opinion as ridiculous....but support your position with nothing more than your opinion.

Epic FAIL.

Based on the opinion of almost every major media outlet and most NFL FO's. He fell last year in a weaker DE class. Do you know why? Because of his size, so unless he grew 2 or 3 inches and put on 15 lbs of muscle he would still be behind Graham who is rated behind Morgan. I thought the reasoning would be obvious guess that was to much to assume.

I actually like Brown and think he will be a solid DE (solid contributer but nothing anyone fears) but still not worth a 1st. But as you said it really doesn't matter because hes ours we have to accept that.
