Who is Hooker?

Hendon Hooker

Lions took him last year in the 3rd, might have been taken in the 1st round by someone if he hadn’t torn his ACL during the bowl game, early 2nd round at worst.

Think the Lions took him in case Goff struggled and they didn't want to re-sign him, now with Goff being their QB for the foreseeable future, having a 27 year old back up with only 10 career passes and only 2 years left on his contract and is likely to want to go somewhere he might have a chance to play, seems like something they could trade.

As a cheap veteran backup I would take him.  And yeah, I know not much chance of that happening.

Daniel Jones as a BACKUP is a solid move. Daniel Jones as a starter is like chopping off a piece of your dick and sending it to your high school bully

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Call the Lions and try to trade for Hendon Hooker and then take T-Mac to give him a great weapon set with Hubbard, Brooks, T-Mac, XL, Coker, and Sanders.

He's only 3.5 years younger than Goff and he only has 2 years left on his contract.  Unless he doesn't even want a chance at a starting spot competition, he's not going to re-sign with them.  If they can get a draft pick for him and then go out and sign another vet to be their backup to Goff, I think they'd do it.

See if we can get him for a future mid round pick, like a 4th or 5th rounder a year or two from now and give him the full season as the starter to see if he has a future in the league and with us.

If he does, awesome, we just found our QB on the cheap.

If he doesn't, then we're likely going to be bad enough to have a Top 10 pick in a QB loaded draft in 2026.

You'd have to drastically overpay.

If he's any good they'll want to keep him - a good backup QB is invaluable. If he's not any good, well there's no real tape out on him yet so they'll want at least the Draft pick they spent on him back.

Let me be absolutely clear Daniel Jones is not a franchise QB and I will be furious if we sign him with that intent. That being said, some team somewhere in the league will convince themselves they can rehabilitate him given the recent success of Geno, Baker and Darnold. I just pray we leave that to someone else.

    • Yeah I think they are wanting to let XL and Coker develop, but I don't see nothing wrong with a speed guy on day 2
    • Finding that dance partner will be difficult and who's to say the team trading up has not offer a package to 5th, 6th, 7th??? They did and were turned down most likely.    I still feel 8th is the hot spot for OT run. If you want the best OT/OL in the draft, 8th is the way.    *But Ive been reading lots of Jets and others having Membou as their pick. Banks and Campbell are right there in great value terms. The whole deal is that pick for the Panthers, they are not looking to spend a top resource on OL, 31 other teams are.    I've also been seeing sanders falling out of the top ten, I just have a hard time buying that. ALso seen dart being drafted in the top ten. FYI last year NO ONE had a 1st round grade on Bo Nix and many thought Michael Penix Jr. was at best late 1st early 2nd. I laugh hard at the failcons drafting Penix at 8th, but I stopped laughing during that week 18 game.... he looked legit......barf....  So... one team could easily trade up for sanders or dart or begin the OL run or Jeanty causes a stir as he falls.  There are legit options, Brandt and Dan get paid for this...
    • I'm with you.  Even an extra 3rd would help.  None of the players you listed are elite though.  Sadly there are very few of those in this draft, but there are a lot of good players in the late first and into the second. We need to realize that we can't get all our needs in this year's draft.  We know we need some sort of edge, a safety, and I feel we need to use one of first 4 picks on a CB, preferably 3rd at latest.  And I want to draft an OT in 3rd to learn behind Moton this year. The extra 2nd would be huge.  2 things Bear Hands has noted in other threads, we can get a rusher in the mid rounds of the first, and if a good LT is available at our pick we should be able to get a deal. I'm ok.  If the media takes are close, trading back to around 15 should get us a second, and since our second is near the end of that round, getting one earlier opens up a whole lot of opportunities.  Either way, Canales builds his infrastructure with this draft.  Next year, with all our picks and probably picking somewhere between 10 and 15, we can get real stars.   All of this depends on hitting on picks this year.
