I think you don't realize the true impact of a franchise QB. It's crazy people still trying to debate the value of the QB position.

 

Y'all living in the 90's football isn't played that way anymore. The Baltimore Ravens dominate defense won in a different era. This is a QB era. You can't hit them like you could in the past. The rules have changed in favor of the QB.

 

Look at the elite teams in the league they all have elite QBs. Without the QB your franchise is going nowhere.

 

7 years under Tepper and fans still haven't realized this. Well keep ignoring the QB position and we will keep sucking. It's really that simple.

Elite QBs are made and need a team to work around them or you end up with a Phillip Rivers situation, at best. 

Sometimes the QB is just the missing piece, or the QB finds the other factors that lift their game. You couldn't ask for a better example of both of those situations than looking at the Stafford/Goff trade between LA and Detroit. Send either of those two guys to Carolina or Cleveland and they just flop around on the turf near the 35 yard line, game after game.

And as to the Texans and Commanders... those are two well coached and well-built teams. Massive turnarounds in each location, a lot of buy in by players and grabbing solid performers where they could. They got their QBs, but they also put them in the right environment.

You claim I'm a 1990s football guy, I claim you're basing your evaluation more on Madden and fantasy football.

Need to first figure out if Evero is sticking around. I don’t want the team investing into a bunch of guys to fit a 3-4 only to have Evero leave or get fired a year later and possibly be looking at a switch back to 4-3.

Texans in particular.  Drafted Stingley, Pitre, Nico, Green, plenty of guys before getting Stroud.  And even last year, getting Dell, Anderson, Scruggs, To'Toto, Hutchinson are all part of the build.  

Those teams built up good squads. 

If you look at us in that time period, it's missed pick after missed pick.  And those were picks we traded multiple picks to get.  With some of those picks even being given to the very Texans that became Nico lol.

First things first is building the team.  Hope Dan can do that.

The consistently good franchises restock linemen with every draft. They have depth. They don’t have to pray that this one guy works out and that he doesn’t get injured. It’s a frequently injured position and without depth, a single injury can tank a season. It’ll be easily exposed. 

Backup DT can’t play the run? Rut roh raggy.

Backup LT doesn’t do well with the speed rush? Sounds like 3rd and a mile all day long. 

Stronger lines make skill position players look better than they really are. 

Teams with bad lines with bad depth almost never make deep playoff runs and they don’t win SBs. 

Using valuable capital in rounds 2-5 and taking linemen who aren’t necessarily positions of need… Wins championships.

This is also why considering this next draft class, it wouldn’t bother me to land an OT like Banks or Campbell. Don’t settle with a strength, keep building your strengths so they stay strengths. Especially if the talent isn’t there at the other spots of need (EDGE, QB)
