Hopefully the damn plan is to trade bryce, sign a vet, draft a young guy and for fugs sake let him sit for 8, 10 17 games.

Yes. Something to be said about letting a QB watch and learn.  At the very least make him prove he is better than a 37 year old journeyman before anointing him starter I know in the current sate it’s not the norm but the current state isn’t working for the Panthers.

Joe Person isn't exactly going out on a limb with this speculation.

It really doesn't even matter anyways. We're relegated to picking between the equivalent of one of two turds thanks to the decision makers.

Just play one of them and let it ride.

No one has time for that these coaches and GM’s jobs are on the line. Fan don’t even wants wait on Bryce to develop and yall telling me that you’re willing to wait another year or two for the next guy?

Don't act like THAT is what would be setting us back. Bryce is what set us back; let's get out from under that. Sooner the better.

I think Canales wanted to go back to Andy sooner after the car wreck but his thumb still wasn't good for New Orleans. Then he won two games and didn't want to make a switch in the middle of it regardless of Bryce's play/stats.

I'm booking it, first loss after the bye and Bryce is back on the bench.

Your honest assessment, what do you think a team would be crazy enough to give up for Bryce? That's saying if one believes they can "fix" him.

5th rounder, maybe 4rth if we get lucky

The tape on him is simply not good.  He is a game manager back up incapable of putting a team on his back to win.

Water makes things wet?

While I think we've seen some good stuff from Bryce, he's not looked like a No. 1 overall stud of a pick.  Bryce will have to be really good.  We've seen that...once?  Versus Green Bay last year?  Is it a matter of the play calling keeping Bryce hemmed in this season?   Or just him?  I'm not sure anymore.

I mean, he's "looked" better, but compared to how he was playing, HOW much better is that?  This is at a time when a LOT of young QBs are struggling.  Playing QB in the NFL is hard, especially when defenses are set up to force you to go 8-12 plays each drive.  But that's why Bryce was drafted - he had the ability to play the mental chess versus opponents.  He's going to get a chance again, but if he looks overwhelmed again, back to Dalton.

So basically - if Bryce keeps the good play rolling, Canales has to keep the franchise defining trade in.  Even if it's barely good.  If Bryce comes out and turns the ball over 3x in three drives...then I think you have to pull him at that point.

Way to really go out on a limb Joe...

    • You are making the mistake that all desperate GM's and coaches typically do right before they get fired. Also the same mistake that keeps bad franchises that way for a long time. Also.....LITERALLY THE SAME MISTAKE THAT LED TO US TRADING UP TO GET BRYCE YOUNG. You can't get so hyperfocused on one position(even the most important position in football like QB) that you just start draft a QB and any QB. This leads to wasted draft picks and years of torment as you are stuck in a development cycle for nothing. Sanders and Ward are unquestionably high caliber NFL propsects. They are also not particularly universally viewed as "can't miss" guys. If we deem them as the BPA when we are picking, so be it. If not, also fine. Fanboi out all you want but when it basically leads you down the "I HOPE WE LOSE ALL THE GAMES!!! I NEEDZ MY GUYZ!!!!" road, it isn't going to end well. That's not being a fan of a team, that's just being a player fan.  Also, if we don't get our franchise QB this draft....oh well. We got the next dozen or so drafts to keep taking cracks at it. Same as anyone else in the same spot that we are.
    • Rumors I've read, and just watching Young and the  play calling, seems to indicate that Canales does not believe in Young …at all ..maybe he was  told by  owner, gm, etc that the franchise is moving  on …Or maybe Canales sees the limited plays calls with young under  center i mean, it is all conjecture  …but let’s  face it…126 yards…what more is there to say…yes there were drops but all qbs have those  He needs to do really really well against KC and  even  if he does…might not be enough  i suspect they will either trade him before draft or will draft  a qb and have an open competition   If he stays, it might be as a backup
    • I would argue this has literally always been the case for almost the entire existence of the NFL. There are substantially more busts than hits, across all rounds. I would say also that there doesn't appear to be much evidence for college quarterbacks being less prepared than before. Certainly in some cases they are vastly underprepared but that has always been the case.  I would definitely make the argument that in every single major sport that athletes are VASTLY more experienced than 20, 30 and more years ago. A lot of that is due to earlier specialization in sport(versus just playing all the sports from K-12), DRAMATICALLY more reps and practice(travel ball, summer leagues, etc) and far greater access to specialized training(most high end players/prospects have specific trainers even before college). All of these things were not readily available decades ago. So the theoretical "10,000 reps" are being hit far, far sooner for most younger athletes. As for the argument for "gimmick offenses" being a problem. I mean....think about how prevalent things like the triple option were in the 70's, 80's and even 90's. Or just offenses in general that were absolutely extinct at the NFL level.  I think there are some general issues with certain positions and the development cycles in college but overall, the development in college has actually improved tremendously. The thing is, it's never going to improve enough to where you are just getting insanely high hit rates on prospects or large percentages of draft picks immediately playing like 8 year veterans. It will never really work like that.
