Thomas Brown and Caleb Williams just put up this passing chart

Caleb Williams did not complete a single pass beyond 6 yards downfield until the final drive of regulation in the Bears’ TNF loss to the Seahawks.

🔸 Under 10 AY: 15/17, 107 yards (+4.5% CPOE)
🔸 Over 10 AY: 1/9, 15 yards, INT (-27.2% CPOE)

I’d be curious to see where Caleb ranks on pass attempts behind the LOS

I feel like Thomas Brown calls a crap load of this stuff to try and keep some of his WR’s engaged particularly DJ Moore. Caleb’s downfield accuracy is some of the worst I’ve ever seen

I had flashbacks of last year watching that horrible offense. They have all these weapons and nothing to show for it unless they’re getting blown out and teams start playing soft prevent defense. Caleb is not the generational talent he was hyped to be (most of us knew that) but I also think Thomas Brown offense is trash

At the very least, we’re getting confirmation that Thomas Brown had a large role in our offense being atrocious last year. This guy can give a QB the yips. Took Bryce an offseason and a mid-season benching to shake them.

I'm sure Thomas Brown is a good guy from all accounts, but man is he an atrocious play caller. He doesn't get tight ends involved, making the tackles jobs much harder. There's absolutely no play action and the run game is essentially non existent, making it much harder for rookie QBs in BY and now Caleb Williams.

Watching the train wreck that is Chicago makes me so happy to have Dave Canales leading our team.

it absolutely blows my mind we had people on here trying to argue last year was more on Bryce than our coaching staff. That dude was freaking calling our plays last year. insane lol

Caleb Williams is getting Bryce'd while Bryce is getting Un-Bryce'd. I'm not absolving Bryce but the common denominator is definitely Thomas Brown. Watching the Bears play brought back flashbacks of last season.

both guys got drafted into the worst possible scenario.

Bryce's has turned around. Maybe Caleb's will, too.

weird that Thomas Brown had a role in both QB's struggle.

That clock management on the last drive and not attempting the long tying fg was real real bad. % on making that kick had to be higher than picking up 4th and 10 when you'd score 3 pts all game

I dunno, Bryce had if way worse with what he had to work with.

Caleb has an elite receiving core to work with along with Kmet and Swift.

Caleb has put up pretty good numbers for a rookie, ones we would have gladly taken for Bryce last year.  But it has been wildly inconsistent, mostly against teams with poor defenses (e.g. Panthers), or playing from behind and putting up garbage time stats (e.g. Lions).  He also had legitimately 3 good wide receivers and running back weapons.  His offensive line is not as bad as it seems, Caleb holds on to the ball for 3-5 business days.  Most analysts predicted Bears to go deep in playoffs based on their talented roster on both offense and defense, so from that standpoint, there's a sense that the QB play is one of the main reasons they've struggled.

His ceiling remains to be seen because he definitely shows flashes. He threw a Patrick Mahomes esque TD pass that was called back for holding. There are also boneheaded moments that make you remember he’s a rookie on a garbage team with terrible coaching. It’s going to depend on who the Bears hire to develop him if he reaches his potential which is an All-Pro QB.

And I’d like to add another reason the Bears are struggling is their division which might finish with the best 3 teams by record in NFL history to all be in the same division. The Bears are probably going 0-6 in the division this year. So I can’t say playing 6 games against wildly superior opponents this year has done anything to help their confidence.

Caleb will be fine with the right coaching in my opinion. Thomas Brown ain't it. He'll never reach his potential being handcuffed. The young man is talented, but he holds on to the ball entirely too long. He's got to learn that the NFL is a different animal.

    • He is not getting fired. Morgan and Canales got the Tepper seal of approval a couple of weeks ago.
    • I was on the Frazier bandcamp too until I saw this, as well as a reddit thread reviewing his defense as very vanilla. His defenses rank high though, but not glowing reviews from his former players apparently: https://www.si.com/nfl/bills/news/buffalo-bills-leslie-frazier-defensive-coordinator-chad-greenway-minnesota-vikings
