Caleb Williams

Stats over last 3 games:

48 of 95 (51%), 468 yds, 0 TDs, 0 Ints, 1 Fum, 0 - 3 record

Bryce Young

Stats over last 3 games:

55 of 88 (63% ), 521 yds, 4 TDs, 3 Ints*, 0 Fum,  2 -1 record

*He’s actually thrown 5 TDs to 2 Ints but 1 TD was called back because of a penalty in the Giants game and the interception to Legette could/should be a fumble as it was a beautiful pass.

I know Young and Canales get a lot of hate around here and some of it is justified, but you have to admit that what they’ve been able to do over the past three games with a cast of rookies is a vast improvement from last year .

Both Bryce Young and Caleb Williams finished their most recent game with what would be the lowest yards per pass attempt in the NFL.

I'm fuging thrilled he and the Bears are a dumpster fire right now.

But unfortunately on the bust scale Caleb is 1A to Bryce at 1B currently.

Williams, while being superior to Bryce in terms of physical attributes, had some of the same concerns, e.g. limited play in the pocket and holding on to the ball forever while running around waiting for someone to get open.

Caleb is still 10x the prospect that Bryce is

He has all the physical tools that Bryce could only dream about having, and that's the difference.

I said it before the draft, drafting Bryce was betting on him being the biggest anomaly in the history of the league at the position.  It was insane then and it's still insane now to think he'll ever even be an average QB in this league, his MAX potential is like 25th best QB in the league, and he still needs EVERYTHING to go exactly his way for that to happen.

His realistic potential is a decent backup because the way he sees the game can be an asset to a QB room during the week in game prep.

Williams is definitely regressing and Bryce is doing what he can to maximize his skills but Williams still has significant upside that Bryce just doesn't have. We're still basically running a redzone offense all over the field because Bryce can't stretch the defense beyond that.

The fact the Bears have never had a 4k yard passer says a lot about their development of QBs as a franchise. Williams always had potential, but was also the riskiest QB pick. Daniels always made more sense from a QB maturity standpoint. Chicago is where QBs go to watch their career die.

So is the goal to enjoy the fact that our number one overall pick that we gave for the little wonder was wasted on a bad player?

Or that our bottom rung QB might now be on the second rung from the bottom?
Those are both very heartening.

Yeah I have been seeing panthers going extra hard at bears fans the last few days and I don't get it. We still got fleeced in that trade and anybody with half a brain unbias would bet on caleb williams figuring it out over bryce in the near future. Plus Chicago didn't give up Hella capital to get williams like WE did. A coaching change which seems inevitable may very well help too unlike bryce.

Both are not ready.

Besides Daniels and Stroud(who's dealing with team issues), no other young QBS since burrow should have played.

Teams are basically just taking new borners and tossing them into deep waters and see if they can swim.

Daniels could be headed back to earth once he gets an injury or DC find his weakness.

This brought tears to my eyes.

100% agree with everything you said.

Y'all are crazy. How's that saying go: insanity is doing the same thing over and expecting different results.

Every year, the Panthers get a new QB and when they dont immediatley live up to expectations, everybody wants to get rid of them and start over. Bridgwater, then Darnold, then Newton, then Mayfield then Young and now everyone wants to discard him and start over again just so they can get a Justin Fields or a Trubisky or a Rosen or a Jones or a Mac Jones etc, etc, etc.

I wasn't a fan of the pick but I'm tired of the revolving door and I've seen enough over the past three games to make me believe there may actually be something there.

Darnold, Mayfield, Geno Smith were all promising QB's put in terrible positions who floundered and consequently disgarded but through some miracle, are all playing at a high level now. Sometimes development takes time.

Until Bryce can perform and look like the kind of QB folks want to see, he’s going to be criticized and ridiculed.  Somewhat deservingly so.  I’m not a fan of his at the moment but things can change.

It helps the organization far more for him to develop than to bust.  I’ll continue to hope for the former and prepare for the latter.

    • There's a real physical toll that playing in the NFL takes on the body.  Certain things just won't work the same, which will make some of those challenges painful and hard.  These folks are all rich and have cushy lives to return to.  I'm not saying Cam will leave first, but I can see it after a few episodes when old injuries flare up.  Or he decides he's done with it.
    • His size could work against him…BUT Cam is a weird duck.  He was wired differently.  I would bet on the young Cam that could barely get dressed after a loss….that dude wouldn’t have quit easily IMO.  But that dude doesn’t exist anymore.
    • i got attacked by a housecat once. pretty terrifying.  i was at a friends house and the cat jumped on my lap. it was calm for a minute but then it turned on it's back and bit my hand and sunk it's claws into my arm, all four of them so i grab the thing and pull the thing off my arm, dragging it's claws down my arm. i finally get the crazy thing off and throw it on the ground then it grabs my leg (fortunately i was wearing jeans that day) and the owner, who has just been sitting there in shock watching this happen to this point, grabs the thing and carries it downstairs and throws it outside.  supposedly that cat had never done anything like that before. i had been over there a lot and never had any problems with that cat. but something happened to it and it was never the same. went completely mental. they kept it outside after that. one week they went on vacation for a few days and apparently a stray chow came around and when they got home, the chow had the cat trapped under a car. no telling how long it had been there.  they chased off the chow and the cat ran off and they never saw it again. then that chow came back and hung around for a while and was terrorizing the other animals, including an old horse they had in a pasture. it killed at least one cat that i know of. they called animal control on it and they found it under one of their outbuildings. they figured the only thing they could do is shoot the thing. they shot it with a shot gun and it took one blast and then went running towards the guy who shot it and had to shoot it again.
