Canales still not sold on Bryce?

So... 200yds? 300yds?

Kirk Cousins just went 23-38 for 306yds and 1 INT for a QBR of 75.1 on Sunday while Bijan went for 116yds and 2 TDs on 20 attempts in a losing effort. Is that what folks want? 100+ rushing yards from the RB, 300+ passing yards from the QB, and an L for the team? Against a Saints team that the Panthers just beat to get the head coach fired and top CB traded away?

If the issue is the amount of yards thrown for in a win, at what point is the yardage no longer an issue?

I think the issue is that the yardage that Bryce is averaging is not indicative of sustained success, which makes the last two wins look like flukes, rather than a trend. A win is better for building morale and establishing a winning culture, but if you're purely trying to evaluate if your QB is the guy, then a 300 yard game, even if it's a loss, is more helpful than a 150 yard game that happened to be a win.

And to answer your question, I think you've gotta average a lot more YPG than 117, Bryce's current average, for the yardage to be no longer an issue. You could double his YPG and it'd still just put him at 14th in the league.

It's right there for anyone to see. The fact that some people are throwing out accusations and insinuating bias because others are rightly pointing out this is not remotely sustainable and we need better is.....interesting to say the least. But that's where we are.

football is a team sport.  winning comes down to the team.

evaluating an O or D?  You can do that in losing efforts.

I'd rather have an O that can do what Atl can do vs what the Panthers can do.

The Steelers ran the ball all over the Giants the week right before we did.  Which made it easy for Wilson to attack them downfield.

I mean, if there ever was a game to work on improving and growing Bryce.....games like the Giants game setup for it.  That's a QB dream setup.  A D that can't handle a run.  Makes opening up the O easy.   But we are just focused on trying to win in spite of him.

No disagreement here that higher numbers means bigger splashes, but as illustrated with the Cousins example that doesn't necessarily always translate to dubs. I understand that in Bryce's case that the stats have not been there and need improvement (not disagreeing with this either!), but perhaps the biggest issue with Bryce was the decision making. That was what was advertised as his way of uplifting his game where other QBs might rely on their legs, howitzer for an arm, or in some blessed cases - both.

But what in the world is the point of holding 129yds passing against him when the run game put up 183yds in a win? Including 30 from Bryce?

Yea, the Giants blow and the dub doesn't mean that Bryce is the guy, but playing a clean game and getting the win over a bad team is what he's supposed to do... isn't it? I'd love to see him air it out for 300+ by dropping bombs on defenses as much the next fan but if he's got an efficient, mistake free game that puts the team in position to win that's a positive. If he has to have 200+ passing yards even if Chuba's rattling off 150+ rushing yards then let's set it as the threshold rather than constantly moving arbitrary goalposts.

Related: are folks really trying to push this "the team won in spite of Bryce" narrative when he had done his job and the defense just needed to hold off Daniel Jones?

Can't speak for Canales, but I'm not sold yet.

He deserves credit for playing well the last few games though. I'd be okay with him starting the rest of the season.

Ultimately I'd still say his ceiling is as a Chad Pennington type player.

If anything the last 2 weeks have shown that Bryce is stronger mentally than a lot, including myself, probably believed.  Bryce was bad last season, but the first 2 games this year were downright awful.  They were indicative of a guy who had lost all confidence.

While Bryce has not really shown much, he has shown that he can rebound mentally from being terrible and getting benched.  That being said, nothing is going to change the fact that he's a more limited Tua.  And I don't think Tua is part of a Super Bowl formula.  But that's my take.

What makes you think that?

@Jackie Lee @outlaw4

Dave and others had drew in Seattle. They tried to sign him this off-season, I heard big backup numbers. Drew thought giants backup was a faster path to starting.... He should be cheap as well.

Not that Im some super fan, just reading leaves and using history.

You really think he can be a starter?

I honestly dont know. All I heard is he has matured greatly after his first 3 years and he was going pass for pass with Geno. It was a coin flip about who Seattle was going to start, they picked the older player and geno has played great.

Dave canales staff went hard after him, I heard Dan Morgan offered nearly top backup pay. Drew picked giants cause he wanted the easiest path to starting.

Dave even went public and he was talking about drew lock here(without naming him)-https://www.profootballrumors.com/2024/05/panthers-interested-in-veteran-qb-addition

Just like any 1st round QB, he's got petty of talent. He's not too big of name to hurt BYs ego. I will say my opinion is that drew would be a better QB than BY.

I'd say more of a Derek Anderson style backup, though anything's possible.

Look what happened with Geno Smith

Thing is Andy was already here. Drew had a full off-season&season with Daves system and others coaches helping.

I got not clue how Drew would do here, there's barely any in-game snaps and Ive never seen him in a practice setting.

He should be NFL QB "cheap", that's one of the biggest reasons cause panthers barley have any cap space. Plus it seemed the staff when after him, but lots changes in a NFL year. Dave could be all-in on rookie to pair with this very young team.
