You already know the answer to this. There isn’t one. There’s nothing you can tell coaches or players to talk them into this. Unless you can somehow promise every player on the team that this season stats don’t count, the film on this year will be deleted, and all players will get signed to player-friendly (not team-friendly basically) long term deals. Then you go up to tepper and promise 3 super bowls after the jay-z 7 years are up.

players are playing for the money left on contracts and the contract coming. Coaches are more or less doing the same. And this isn’t even adding in pride and/or egos.

i get you’re just trying to make the other guy look dumb. But let’s end this lol the idea is dumb and isn’t happening. Only fans believe in tanking… and that’s okay. Root away for the tank. Whatever makes you happy.

i'm not trying to make anyone look dumb.

they seem sure. i'm sure they are seeing something that i'm missing out on.

let this be the definitive tanking thread where the whole thing is explained. how to successfully pull off a tank.

give me the deets, folks. (that means details)

What's actually insane is that we are so far away from competing for anything real, and there are 9 teams worse than us LOL.

Eh.....that's still TBD. It is a HELL of a race for these top 10 picks though.

Lots of these teams play each other over the last part of the season, so we will see some sorting of the order.

What's crazy is i never said tank i said I don't see the point in winning against dumpster teams in the last 8 games to feel good about a qb who can't lead a game winning drive or win a playoff game

lol

"so i didn't actually use the word 'tank'....i just don't think we should be trying to win."

this is awesome.

Lol alright, you have fun with that.

Though I am also intrigued as to how you pull that off and don’t end up fired haha so I can’t be mad. I’ll be waiting for an answer even if i don’t expect a good one.

be careful. you might get laughed at saying that we aren't the absolute worst team in the history of all pro sports....which just happen to be the ones that are mad we won a couple and are trying to win.

oh yeah...i'm having fun with it.

not to mention that it's kind of illegal and we could get serious fines and end up actually LOSING those pics we tanked for.

I understand all that, but thats not the issue. The issue is people are getting mad that this team isn't lying down. My question is how do you get your team to lie down.

What do you do to get your team to quit trying do you don't win "pointless" games?

You have to do it from a coaching perspective. Honestly, it looked like the Giants were doing it this past Sunday. That did not look like a team trying to give itself the best opportunity to win. I mean, you're running the ball at will and you still let your terrible QB throw it 37 times? That doesn't make any logical sense if you're actually trying to win. We were in the same situation on the other side but we only let threw it 25 times.

I don't think NFL teams go out there and deliberately throw games. But you can make decisions throughout the course of the game to tip the scales toward your desired outcome without being blatantly obvious about it.

Daboll could get fired. It could be that they really are just that inept.

Last consecutive winning seasons? Look at the late season wins and what that lead to the next season...

Explain "winning culture"

lol i'll explain that once you actually give me the strategy for tanking...sorry, not "tanking" ...getting your team to just not try...or whatever it is you are thinking is such a brilliant tactic to lose games instead of trying to win.

They were not trying to lie down. If you want to see what that looks like, see the Philly mutiny that led to Doug Pederson's firing.

Very possible. I think he's basically already fired and he probably knows it. I mean, there's no salary cap on coaches. Who's to say a team can't go to a coach and say, "Listen, we're going a different direction after this year. We can fire you now or how about $5M to out your thumb on the scale in a non-obvious way and get us better draft position? And yeah, there will be an iron clad NDA you're going to sign."

I'm not saying that it happens but I'm honestly not aware of anything that would prevent it from happening. And honestly in an industry with only 32 tightly linked potential employers in a very small community of professionals it's not like people are going to super eager to burn bridges giving up the dirt anyway. NFL blacklisting is real. Not in a coordinated way but just in the fact that all 32 employees are very similarly motivated type of way. You don't have to have coordination for all 32 teams to arrive at the same conclusion on potential employees.

The players weren't but from a play calling perspective what they were doing just made no damn sense at all. Could the staff just be that dumb? Yeah, absolutely.

Yes. It literally happens all the time. Our own coaching staff has done this in multiple games this year. It's called incompetence.
