Call me crazy but I dont think we have improved.  I think a lot of NFL teams have radically regressed.

I looked at the standings earlier. Just a glut of bad teams with 2-3 wins.

You can see it on the field. The CBA is a big part of it - talk about coddling. You can't drill up a good team, they have to get good in season. Somehow.

Things will change at the bottom with probably a lot of those teams playing each other etc, but this may be a little bit unlucky in that there are so many bad teams. We might fall down the list farther than we deserve.

Have you looked at this class?  You have Ward, who is the only one I would trust. Then you have two wildcards in Ewers and Sanders.  Beyond that you have to hope there's an Allen, Mahomes or Jackson  outside of the top 5-10 picks that are diamonds in the rough.  It's not there, it simply isn't.  There's some guys who may develop into a solid backup or possibly decent starter given plenty of time, but a sure fire franchise guy--Ward is the only likely prospect in this draft.  Even then he's not a generational talent and will need a solid support system to be successful.

There is risk at every pick. Safe ones bust all the time too. My point being, no QB in the last 4 drafts aside from Daniels has panned out as a sure fire hit. We can’t assume 26 and 27 QB will be any better. Cam Ward and Sanders elevate their teams and have a toolbox that Bryce doesn’t have. They have the confidence you want as well. If the staff is convicted on either they have to go with it. If not then fine. I don’t agree with forcing it, but I also don’t agree with assuming Patrick Mahomes Jr falls in our laps next year.

So that's the goal see progress against bad teams, forget showing improvement against teams that are actually good. You must think bullying is OK also. Watch what playoff teams think about your progress.

You have to start by beating someone. We 'won' the draft a couple years ago, and what did that do for us?

If you can't beat bad teams, you don't beat good ones, either. A QB isn't a player in a vacuum.

Half the huddle

Jonah Hill Reaction GIF

The point is you hinder your opportunity to improve by racking up meaningless wins versus some feel good story about winning against the giants who took you to OT despite being down double digits was a fumble away from a rookie and possibly beating you. Rather be in control of selecting a top prospect versus accepting the leftovers

But yay Bryce won against the giants we won.

    • Likely just ends up being hallucinogenic.
    • You play out the season like everyone else, see how the team develops, you fall in the draft where you fall, and then find the best players you can.  You get nowhere trying to dictate something that is mostly out of your control.  Obsessing with controlling the uncontrollable gets you nowhere in life.   I mean, are people wanting us to try to be worse? Show up to the coin toss with a white flag? Have a GM coordinate with a coach who instills this idea in the players -- so in case we have a 4th quarter lead against another sh*tty team, they let off the brakes? I don't even get the concern or how that objective is feasible.  The "tank" discussion is just ridiculous in the NFL.  Too many factors, too much coordination, honestly, it's quite the convoluted strategy that would blow up anyways.  Much more bake-able in the NBA.   GMs just stay on track with how they're trying to build until they're fired or become perennial contenders.        We're a bad team, with a tank commander QB, and have beat some spiraling squads.  We're likely to be a top pick, just enjoy the ride through the hellscape.   Geez.
    • I don't think he is as good as someone like Robert Saleh but he is a very capable DC. He has done what he can with some very, very talent deficient rosters here.
