Scott Fowler on Bryce Young

Young at least isn’t making the big mistake. I won’t go overboard here praising Young like the TV broadcast did. Yes, he made some nice first-half throws, but he also only had a handful of completions after halftime, threw for just 126 yards the entire game and missed several very makeable throws late. Carolina had a great chance to run out the clock on its final possession, but Young and company couldn’t do it (this also had to do with Canales’ unimaginative playcalling). 

Still, Young didn’t turn the ball over and Jones threw two red-zone interceptions for the Giants. All of that was huge. 

Once 2-17 as a starter for Carolina, Young has now improved to 4-17. Which is still terrible, but objectively not as terrible. Young has done enough to start again when Carolina plays next after its upcoming bye week — at home vs. Kansas City and Patrick Mahomes on Nov. 24. Whew! Good luck winning three in a row, Carolina.

It's true that Canales playcalling is as unimaginative as Fowler's writing. He does a great job of pointing out the obvious.

Finally a reasonable take that, Bryce was ok against a terrible team. Didn’t lose the game for the panthers and that’s what matters. Still hasn’t proved he’s the guy.

Might as well ride him out for the remainder of the year.  Lets see if he can progress to the point he is a serviceable player.

I think it's unimaginative on purpose and for a reason. 

The team can't run his full playbook.  He said as much after we lost to the Saints in game one.  He's admitted he's had to adjust.

Like I said earlier,  if chuba goes down things will get very ugly. Thats how you measure bryce.

That was almost a reality, but we’ve seen when teams stopped the run to force Bryce to beat them with his arm. 
I will say that Bryce has shown tiny sparks of improvement. Probably not enough to warrant a long term title as QB1 and make the Panthers competitive at the QB position, but still waiting to be proven wrong.

He's an extremely limited QB in which you end up running a very limited and predictable offense with. Which is also why I'm not shunning (or) anointing Canales.  

When the running game and defense are on point, and he is mistake free, you can win games.  A very limited, unsustainable recipe, but hey, that's 2 wins in a row.

Bryce doesn’t deserve to compete next year. No QB looks this bad for two years and turns it around. The optimism isn’t warranted.
