I don't want to go to fast for you.

Here is number three and it might be the worst start for a HOF QB ever who went on to win multiple superbowls.

1970:

  • Passing: 1,410 yards
  • Completion %: 38.1%
  • Touchdowns: 6
  • Interceptions: 24

1971:

  • Starts: 13
  • Record: 5-8
  • Passing: 2,259 yards
  • Completion %: 47.7%
  • Touchdowns: 13
  • Interceptions: 22

Combined two-year totals:

  • Record: 8-13
  • Passing: 3,669 yards
  • Touchdowns: 19
  • Interceptions: 46
  • Passer Rating: 36.1 (1970), 54.9 (1971)

I think it was fairly obvious that Bryce was super comfortable with the first 15 scripted plays. He looked poised. He made good throws.

After the scripted set, he, and Canales, both seemed to be uncomfortable with the flow of the game. It’s that uncomfortability that leads to poor/rushed throws.

Bryce has to be better if he intends on being the future (which I don’t think he should be), but the playcalling after the script has to be better also.

Think about who he calling the plays for, and what limitations that might set.

The plays are being called for the same group for which the first 15 scripted plays are being called, so there should really be no difference in playcalling.

Unfortunately, Canales goes through periods of forgetting about the Panthers’ success running the ball, putting the offense, and Bryce, in bad situations.

I’m not arguing that Bryce is good in any way. In fact, I think he is one of the biggest problems with the team. However, even with his limitations, Canales has to put him and the offense in the best position to make plays. They seemed to do that today during the scripted set; after that, they struggled.

and you said dozens as if its totally commonplace for poo qbs to turn things around.  keep posting

My whole point is finding even a decent NFL QB is hard.  No reason to give up on one with potential until you find someone better.  Throw out his rookie year.  If anything it hurt him as I think we can all agree the first 2 games of the year he looked and played the worst football of his NFL career.  Judge him like a rookie in Canales's system from week 8 on.

Here are more.  All of these are not mirror copies of Bryce.  My argument is the NFL is hard and the path to being a quality NFL starter isn't always a straight one and guys can get better, especially guys who work hard and are willing to learn like Bryce.

Alex Smith,  Rich Gannon, Vinny Testaverde, Jim Plunkett, Brett Favre, Ryan Tannehill, Doug Williams, Tommy Maddox, Jake Plummer, Josh Allen, Jordan Love, Geno Smith.

    • Cam is the GOAT dual threat, but we've never been able to have back to back seasons with winning records despite the late season surge winning streaks, my favorite being the year we won the south in the 2nd half of the season. But winning 2 games late in the year against bad teams doesn't establish a "winning culture"  If they beat the Falcons bucs once, competitive against the chiefs and eagles i will have no problem with wins then because it's against legitimate competition but beating the giants and saints just to feel good, hard pass.
