so we won that trade?

Not really. I don't think he is nearly as good  as some think he was and his stats this year so far help back that up. He just isn't dominant for the money he got. I don't think we got much for him in trading but I sure as hell didn't want us to pay him what the Giants did. Remember the players on defense back in the day who were faces of the franchise and dominant? Burns definitely is no Peppers or Luke or anyone to that level and couldn't take over a game. He just wasn't as great as he thought he was in my opinion. We could use him of course but no way I would pay that kind of money for what he offers in his play.

Peppers had some poor showings or seasons sometimes too but was a lot stronger and able to break through double teams. Burns will only ever be a role player.

I remember some of those poor showings by Peppers but even in those times I don't feel like Brian Burns would be anywhere close to his level. Peppers was better than Burns in every way. I've never seen Burns even once show that he could take an entire game over and severely affect the outcome and for the money he wanted I sort of expect him to have that Peppers ability. I know our defense is weak now but I'm still glad he is gone and so happy we didn't pay him that monstrous contract he wanted.

Yeah Brown was shown to be a lot more important even in his second year

I sure do miss the days of having guys like Cam, Luke, Peppers, Olsen, Steve Smith etc who were faces of the franchise and could dominant games. I hope we can soon find and develop future faces of the franchise like the past guys and find a strong identity with some game changers on defense.

About $3 mil/sack so far.

I don't even know that it was himself that thought he was so great. Fitterer basically handed over the keys to the kingdom by turning down a massive trade haul. How could he not ask for top 5 money when you turned down a package that could net you a franchise QB?

    • football is a team sport.  winning comes down to the team.  evaluating an O or D?  You can do that in losing efforts.  I'd rather have an O that can do what Atl can do vs what the Panthers can do.  The Steelers ran the ball all over the Giants the week right before we did.  Which made it easy for Wilson to attack them downfield.    I mean, if there ever was a game to work on improving and growing Bryce.....games like the Giants game setup for it.  That's a QB dream setup.  A D that can't handle a run.  Makes opening up the O easy.   But we are just focused on trying to win in spite of him.
    • No, just acknowledging he is on a run heavy offense, throwing to rookies who are developing but not exactly a recipe for a ton of productivity. Yet what i see as positives is actual pocket presence last 3 games, willingness and ability to stay and go through progressions, take shots downfield. He has a long ways to go but i see those as positive steps to hopefully more accelerated growth. Let’s see how they finish the year
    • We had the worst passing offense in the league last year forcing the ball to AT for him to reach 1k yards. You make it sound like Bryce is middle of the pack in passing yards which almost everyone here would be fine with. But in reality he is at the very bottom. I mean the very bottom.
