you don't know what your compensatory picks are until a month or so before the draft, but i'm pretty sure it's safe to safe we will get at LEAST a 3rd rounder for his expensive ass.

I may be wrong, but I think that a 3rd is the highest Compensatory Pick given.

For just Pep? If so, they only give one pick per player. 3rd is the most we will get for him...and we will get a 3rd.

really? I thought you could get more than one for a specific player... oh well, we'll probably get a relatively high pick for delhomme, i think part of how they base what round you get it in is on the player's salary, either before or after he leaves the team (not sure which), then we'll probably get some 5-7 rounders for diggs, kemo, lewis, and hoover.

Man you guys are in love with stats and acquiring a veteran DE to displace one of our young talents to the bench. Osi is NOT a very good option. His injuries are adding up. A torn hip flexor has been a reoccurring issue this past season. And in 2008 a torn lateral meniscus kept him out all season.

The Giants coaching and medical staff have a lot better view of the situation and had demoted OSI to a reserve role as a situational pass rusher. That allows him to take less wear and tear and is where he is better suited now.

Osi on the other hand wants to start and a new contract to insure his and his families security. Seen it time and time again a aging football star with some medical issues seeing his career reaching it's logical end attempting to cash out while ignoring his bodies whimpers of protest. WE DON'T NEED A STARTER DE. We need a young guy willing to accept his role as a situational pass rusher and backup. This can be drafted this year as late as the 4th. Greg Hardy could be a reclamation project that could pay huge dividends.

If I'm not mistaken you don't get compensatory picks for released players. so we'll get picks for pep, feeley, johnson, wesley, that's off the top of my head.

Compensatory picks

In addition to the 32 picks in each round, there are a total of 32 picks awarded at the ends of Rounds 3 through 7. These picks, known as "compensatory picks," are awarded to teams that have lost more qualifying free agents than they gained the previous year in free agency. Teams that gain and lose the same number of players but lose higher-valued players than they gain also can be awarded a pick, but only in the seventh round, after the other compensatory picks. Compensatory picks cannot be traded, and the placement of the picks is determined by a proprietary formula based on the player's salary, playing time, and postseason honors with his new team, with salary being the primary factor. So, for example, a team that lost a linebacker who signed for $2.5 million per year in free agency might get a sixth-round compensatory pick, while a team that lost a wide receiver who signed for $5 million per year might receive a fourth-round pick.

If fewer than 32 such picks are awarded, the remaining picks are awarded in the order in which teams would pick in a hypothetical eighth round of the draft (These are known as "supplemental compensatory selections").

Compensatory picks are awarded each year at the NFL annual meeting which is held at the end of March; typically, about three or four weeks before the draft.

there u go buddy
