Why are we wasting money on RBs? Not even 2 years and we overpaid for 2 RBs!

Wait and look at all your options.

If Brooks balls out see ya. Using that money on a defensive starter in FA.

Or Brooks sucks, and Hubbard BALLS OUT for the rest of the season and demands more money.... It was the perfect contract at the perfect time. Regardless of how all this plays out, this was actually a really good move from our front office.

For real, Hurney would have given Hubbard top RB money as a default.

To demand more money you have to have suitors. What other franchise is overpaying for RBs?

Henry/Barkley were both free and had limited suitors. The position isn't that valuable in the grand scheme of things.

That is a very reasonable contract for a guy who has played like a top 10 RB for the past calendar year.

Miles is gone. Chuba & Brooks are the future.

I know it's been easy to crap on everything this team does, but this is the right move.

We are actually building a young core on offense of good players.

If we add another high-end WR (which we will have the money to do), we have a really good offensive core to surround Bryce or whoever the QB is.

If Dan Morgan can improve the defense next year as much as he has the offense this year, i will be impressed, and more importantly, we should have a legitimately competitive team for the 1st time in a long time.

They didn’t pay him top RB money so I’m good.

Pay and keep your good drafted players. If it blows up again then so be it, but you gotta start somewhere.

Exactly, and Chuba has played like a top-10 RB.  He has unequivocally earned this.

And most importantly, he wants to be here, and took less to make it happen.

I am certain another team would have offered him this contract based on his play.

That 2nd TD run last week was as elite of a run as you will see.

Chuba does not have the game breaking speed prime CMC did, but he's criminally underrated otherwise.

Chuba worked his ass off to get better & better- if he doesnt deserve to see that effort rewarded, then who does. (hopefully we resign Jaycee soon also)

I'm excited to see him & Brooks together. Could legitimately be the best 1-2 punch we've had since Williams/Stewart.

I do wonder if we're trying to zig while everyone else is zagging.  As others mentioned Dan saw 1st hand the power of double trouble. He has beefed up the o line. Wr prices are getting out of hand which is why he traded up 1 pick to get that 5th year option on Leggett. Bad wr are getting paid and we would've paid dj 2 to 3 times what Hubbard is getting.

Miles is why you don't sign outside rb to massive contracts.

Cmc is why you don't sign your own rb to record breaking contracts

Hubbard is neither. He has excelled and improved in this system. He is not breaking any $$ records.

Did he get paid more than I wouldve liked? Yes. Did he earn it? Yes.

Hubbard has almost 800 yards and 6 tds on one of the worst offenses in the league. A wr with those stats would be getting 25/year. I like Hubbard and I want to root for him and now I can for 4 more years

I like the way you think. I think some people are getting caught up in "he's a hard worker he deserves it". I'm not questioning if he deserves it. I'm just saying why are we investing high picks and top 10 RB money for 2 RBs.

The position itself is not very valuable. People screaming 2 backs wins you games. Yeah when you have the roster. We don't have the roster to win games with 2 backs.

Just seems like a signing that could have waited until we see what Brooks can bring to the table. Chubba money could have been a defensive starter money in FA.

The RB position is one of the most valuable positions in the field from a purely football standpoint. Y'all are killing me acting like it's so much investment. But, carry on...

QB, Olineman, WRs, TEs, RBs get the scraps.

From important to least important that's how the offense works. Don't overpay your elite RB who has an elite Oline who blocks for him. The moment that Oline stinks you will get a bad RB.

He isn’t overpaid, he’s medium paid. And he was good last year with a bad OL, so there goes that argument.

The thing about Chuba that has improved exponentially from his first two or three years is his vision. The run you referenced was a direct result of his excellent vision: being patient, finding holes, running behind blocks, accelerating at the right moment.

    • The word elite was in none of my posts. And it doesn’t matter, he’s a top five guy this season and this is the season to extend him. That’s how it works. We were lucky to get him for just the ninth highest contract and not top one or two. He’s a steal for what we paid. Could he start slacking off and it turn into a bad contract? Sure, but none of the evidence of his work ethic would suggest that.
    • Previous bad contracts don't make a bad one now acceptable. And there is nothing wrong with a committee, but we traded up in the 2nd round to take the widely regarded #1 RB in the draft class.  You don't do that with the intent of him being a backup for his entire rookie contract, and you don't sign someone to be the 9th highest paid RB in the league to be the backup either. If we were a contending team and we could afford it, it would be different, such as with the Lions and their RB room right now. But we're not, we have SOOOOO many holes, that spending $10 million on an RB when you have someone who should be a 3 down workhouse on a cheap 2nd round rookie contract, is just a completely irresponsible use of the cap room. How can anyone be okay with spending that $10 million there as opposed to a starting DE, CB, or LB? Or if we go QB in the draft next year like so many want, that $10 million could be used towards a WR as even with Legette and what people want Coker to be, that WR room next year is looking like one of the worst in the league right now. Contracts can never be looked at in a vacuum, when you take everything into consideration, it's a terrible signing unless they already know Brooks isn't going to be THAT guy, and if that's the case, then it was a terrible draft pick. Again, one of the two decisions is terrible, we just may not know which one it is yet, but time will let us know.
