Why are we wasting money on RBs? Not even 2 years and we overpaid for 2 RBs!

Wait until the details come out.  Sheesh.

It's $15 mil guaranteed over 4 years (and we don't even know if its front heavy/balanced/back heavy), and Miles Sanders is good as gone.  With the cap continuing to increase, this will end up being a drop in the bucket, especially considering we have a R2 rookie contract on the books and no one else once we save ditching Sanders.  Our RB room will basically be what? ~11 mil next year/moving forward for the next 3-4?  That's entirely on par with league average.

There's still this misnomer that RB isn't valued by teams - it absolutely is.   Teams are simply navigating to find a top RB attack through different means given they don't need to fork out $15mil+/yr contracts for single players anymore.  It doesn't mean it still isn't valued, just valued differently given the non-workhorse culture. They're targeting 1-3d rounders, getting decent FAs, running rooms are just being built strategically...

Baltimore: Lamar as a dual, Derrick Henry (Top-FA), Hill (R4)

Detroit: Montgomery (Top-FA), Gibbs (R1), Vaki (R4)

Philly: Hurts (Dual), Barkley (Top-FA), Shipley (R4)

Buffalo: Allen (Dual), Cook (R2), Davis (R4)

Atlanta: Robinson (R1)

Texans: Went out and got Mixon, weren't complacent with random guys/FAs/late rounders

Packers: Weren't complacent with Aaron Jones and their high pick in Dillon - ditched both.  Reworked their RB room with Jacobs

WAS: Daniels (Dual), Robinson (R3), Ekeler (FA) - FYI Ekeler was $15 mil guaranteed over 4 years with a $24.5 mil contract.

We won twice as many games this year as with Chuba as we did with Johnson and you wanted us to extend Johnson?

Watch Johnson ball out and people act like we made a mistake not signing him.

I'll just wait until after they win the SB. Johnson is a top 5 WR in terms of getting open. Guys like that don't come around often. We had him and just couldn't get a deal done. Dude didn't want to be here i understand, but yes I wanted us to sign him long-term. He's good at getting open. Lamar is gonna show you how important he is to a offense.

Johnson went to the league leader in Passing and Rushing.  They are literally the top offense in the league.  If he DOESN'T "ball" out he is going to have a hard time landing a decent contract.  Sounds like Lamar has been doing just fine without him...

XL, Coker, Brooks, and Sanders are all going to be on cheap deals next two years.  The whole oline is back next year minus Brady. This contract isn’t going to kill us.  Attack defense in the draft and build this thing out.

Would it have killed us to wait until after the season to sign Chubba?

If Brooks is legit that could have been money spent on a defensive starter. The offense is in good hands even without Chubba. We just need a QB.

We have to reward hard work and never quit attitudes. Otherwise who would even try. Chuba earned this and I'm happy for him. I was not a fan of his until this season. He has actually put in work and improved each and every year. There are not many players on this team that can say that.

What you don't understand is that IF Brooks is legit, you still need Chuba.  It's not a 3 down back league anymore.  Good teams use committees. @Bear Handsjust broke down the top offenses and how they have addressed running the ball.  People are just angry because they are mad at the organization (understandably).  This move is no big deal at all.

Exactly if Brooks is good our backfield is looking very nice for years to come

The top offense traded for a WR who is a FA after the season. Seems like they think he's a serious enough talent to put them over the top.

Johnson is a high end #2 WR. In the right situation he has #1 type ability. This guy already had a 1000 yard season earlier in his career. He's in his prime right now. For a team who lacks talent you damn right I wanted him on this roster long-term.

But he didn't want to be here so obviously you move on which we did.

You don't think Chubba will fall off after the contract?

Who's to say he doesn't go back to bum as Chubba again?

I like spending money on our players, but why overpay for a freaking RB?

Chubba as good as he is isn't helping us win games. He's great, but he's a RB! It's not resulting in wins on the field.

Even the best RBs Henry/CMC have elite rosters to make them look good. We are not that kind of team to be overpaying for a RB.

Chuba was never a "bum." Come on, man. He's a dawg, and has been one since he arrived. He has improved every single year. His mentality is what we need to be honest. However...

I respect your core point, but it is what it is, and it's not like we're breaking the bank with 15 mil guaranteed. You may disagree, but effective RBs are necessary to have some sense of sustained stability for an offense, especially one that's shaky and attempting to get a consistently competitive foothold, and as the roster improves, an effective RB is necessary to sustain success.

I'm not mad just disappointed at the timing. We should have waited until we see what Brooks offered.

At worst it gives us options. That Chubba money could have been spent on a defensive starter. RBs are easy to find more than any other position. You can get them undrafted or late in the draft.

As for those teams with 2RBs you do notice their rosters are legit? We don't have that kind of roster to get wins right away. It only works when you have a roster full of talent. We are far from that.

We need to retain talent but the front office needs to get with the times

spending a 2nd round picks on rbs is outdated

paying chuba is fine assuming they have a plan but like most I doubt these guys actually have a plan for this team

Dude, the division-leading Falcons drafted an RB in the first. Arguably the best team in the NFC, also drafted one in the first not too long ago. We drafted one in the second with a likely first round grade notwithstanding an injury (one that some experts expressly said may be better than Bijan, who is better than Jahmyr).

Some of you kill me with the RB thing. Yes, they have been devalued on paper---they're not going to get paid like other positions due to the nature of their positiom, but they're still as important as ever on the field.

Their contracts are still relatively paltry compared to most positions however, so it's not something to get all up in arms or start hand wringing about.
