Why are we wasting money on RBs? Not even 2 years and we overpaid for 2 RBs!

Detroit didn't have an elite roster when Montgomery first got there. Their offensive line wasn't anywhere near as good as ours when Campbell was hired. You remember running all over them during the Wilks tenure? They have put that team together over the last three years. Dan Morgan is in year one. They drafted their RB in the first round after year two. We drafted ours in the second in year one. The Lions have paid Montgomery twice and only been contenders the last two years. His guaranteed money is higher considering his deal is only for two years. Chuba's is only 5 million more and he's signed for two more years. I am not saying we don't need more talent. I am saying this contract is going to do a whole lot of nothing in handcuffing our money. And stop posting about players quitting after getting a big contract. That is anti-NBA guy stuff and I know you don't view yourself as that. Chuba has worked hard to get better and will continue to do so per his current demeanor.

Also, think about how good Colorado would be if they had a decent RB.

Colorado is on the verge of making the playoffs without a RB.

My issue is not with Chubba he is a good guy. My issue is with the position. Why are we paying a RB before we see what we have in Brooks. Chubba could have got paid in the off-season.

Since you being positive who's to say Brooks might be better than Chubba. Now we have our rookie who's better than Chubba making less money and getting less snaps.

This signing was bad timing point blank.

I like it. You could cherry pick any position and if the rest of the team sucks it won't "get you wins". I don't know how having one of the worst defenses in the history of humanity is being laid on Hubbard's shoulders. I think extending him on a FAIR contract is a big step towards building and reinforcing the type of culture they say they are trying to build here.

The contract is really reasonable and Chuba has earned it through hard work. it's only 9th highest RB contract and it's only 8.3 million per year.

This is a culture signing more than anything. Show the other guys that working your ass off gets you paid. This helps reiterate the "dawg" mentality that Morgan wants in our players.

Naw, these dudes think you should let your guys walk and be void of any veteran presence, and be a farm system for the NFL elite. This would be one where Chuba would sign for the same reasonable contract with a good team and these same dudes would be all we let him walk for that measly contract! Dan Morgan is a moron. Every year we have been contenders we have had multiple good RBs. They are just listening to the media narrative now that you can plug any loser at RB and win a SB. And no one has ever done that in the history of the league!

You don't think Chubba will fall off after the contract?

Who's to say he doesn't go back to bum as Chubba again?

I like spending money on our players, but why overpay for a freaking RB?

Chubba as good as he is isn't helping us win games. He's great, but he's a RB! It's not resulting in wins on the field.

Even the best RBs Henry/CMC have elite rosters to make them look good. We are not that kind of team to be overpaying for a RB.

If your metric is only pay players who are helping us win, then we should not have paid anyone over the past 7 years. That's not how this works. I'd argue Chuba over the past 2 seasons has been one of the only players that has directly contributed to the few wins we have managed.

When was he "bum" Chuba??  Two years ago he averaged 4.9 yards a carry vs his 5.0 this year.  Last year he was making something out of nothing every play with teams stacking the box.  He always just needed more touches and now we have a decent OL for him.

RB is not a valuable position.

That money could have went to a starter on defense. That's why you drafted Brooks in the 2nd Rd.

Think about what I just said. We drafted a RB in the 2nd Rd for him to backup a RB we just gave top 10 money. We basically valuing the wrong positions for depth.

This defense is flat out atrocious and we handing out quality money to a RB. That money could have went to a starter on defense. Cmon man make it make sense.

Sanders will be gone after this year.

This league is becoming a multi-back league.

Brooks is on a rookie contract.   Chubba is just the 9th highest paid RB

we won’t even be top 10-15 in the NFL in $$ allotted to RBs next year.

Who happens to play RB. Probably the least valuable position on offense.

You're constantly bitching about letting our talented players leave because we're not willing to pay them. We decide to pay one of the best players on offense (a team friendly contract at that) and here you are still bitching.

Funny how that works innit.

If Brooks turns out to be better than Chuba, then you let Chuba walk after year three and save 6 million! Then you turn around and re-sign all of the young players that are getting better this season. It wasn't a bad signing as they got the #3 RB in pro football for $15million guaranteed. Quit letting the media narrative make you think RBs aren't valuable. Nobody looks at it as Montgomery taking away snaps from Gibbs. Anytime we have been good here we have had two good backs. This is without breaking the bank like they did back then! If you can put any ole bum at RB, why is San Fran struggling and waiting with baited breath for CMC's return? What did KC do when Pacheko got hurt? They went and signed Hunt again, past transgressions be damned. This is a great signing for culture and for the talent that Chuba has worked to be. Quit whining about something good about the base they are building here.

And Colorado would be much harder to defend if they were able to have a ground game to take pressure off of their passing attack.

CMC/Moore/Burns were the only elite talents we had in the Tepper era buddy.

All 3 were traded.

Besides Brown who have we been paying that is considered elite?

I'll wait on those elite players home grown in the Panthers house.

    • If the last 2 weeks were Young’s first games in the NFL I’d have been pretty content Its tough to forget those first 18 games but he finally did things these last 2 weeks I’ve been waiting 18 games to see So it’s a start  Dan Morgan doesn’t strike me as the chess type but the whole committed thing could just be him knowing we’re going to have a top 5 pick again and if Bryce continues to flirt with this whole improvement thing then you might as well ride this out into the draft and potentially get someone to pick a QB in front of you
    • He is getting 8 million a year with only 15 guaranteed.  The Lions just drafted a RB in round 1 and then signed Montgomery and then threw more money at him.  There won't be many of these 3 down workhorses you are talking about, it will be a committees.  Our OC even said he had plays drawn up with both RBs in the backfield.  The starting DE you are getting for $8 probably shouldn't be a starting DE.  I'm not against paying a proven RB who is a locker room leader $8 million a year with our other RB being on a mid 2nd round contract.  That's pretty normal and nothing over the top for cap allocation.  You are still thinking old school.  The Falcons spent a high first on Robinson and he still splits with Allegier, The Lions spent a 1st on Gibbs and he splits with Montgomery not to mention injuries over a 17 game season.
    • And that's how we ended up with Miles Sanders. Paying for a RB who had 1 great season. Now that our RB position is good to go I hope we see some success in the win column.   2 back system is a proven system is what they told me. Can't wait to start winning more games with double trouble!
