BREAKING:Panthers re-sign Chuba Hubbard

Recommended Posts

8ish million a year is reasonable. We don't have a great history long term with paying backs second contracts. I like Chuba a lot as a player and a person so I hope he balls out and we don't regret it. But no one here can predict the future. We just have to wait and see how it pans out.

If I have one issue with this contract it's the fact that our offense is still bottom of the league despite this signing. Obviously that's not because of Hubbard. But we have got to start getting some production from the QB room or purge the whole damn thing.

I understand why people are against this move.  Generally, I'd agree.  BUT - this is a Panthers team that is pretty bare.  Of talent.  Of leadership.  Of pride.

Does signing Chuba immediately fix all of this?  No, of course not!

This shows that if you produce, you get rewarded.  Chuba is the absolute DAWG of a leader this team needs.  Yes, rookie RBs are a dime a dozen.  But Chuba went from a "WTF, Matt Rhule's wife???" to a high level RB in the NFL.  He's 25, and doesn't have that much milage on the tires.

You can't just import talent, or trade it away.  You have to retain it.  Hubbard is having a great season, he's turned into a reliable pass catcher out of the backfield from a complete liability.  He was a pretty bad pass blocker into a reasonable one.  He is an example of a guy who has put in the work.

That's a great guy to have on the team.  This is who the rookies should look to for leadership.  I'm cool with it, and I'm happy for Hubbard!

It wouldn't look so bad if they didn't already have an overpaid Miles Sanders taking up $6M per on the roster.

Yeah but Sanders is gone after this year and Brooks is a rookie just making his debut after recovering from knee surgery. For a team that places emphasis on running the ball, this is a good move to build depth now. And let’s not forget, we got Brooks on a rookie contract, so we got at least 3-4 years before sinking $$$ into the position again.

Yeah hope this 2back system brings many wins like people keep comparing to other teams.

Problem is we lack talent on defense this won't result in wins. I hate the timing this could have been done in the off-season and we could have had more options. If Brooks balled out we could have used that money on a defensive starter. RBs come and go.

There’s been a resurgence in value of running backs this year, our offense is predicated on running the ball. I would rather resign our own draft pick than waste money on a free agent like we did with Sanders

True. And there’s been an increasing emphasis of using RBs in the passing game, which is Brooks’ strength. When I watch his tape, he reminds me of another Longhorn alumni - Jamal Charles. If we can get anything close to that kind of success from Brooks, our backfield is set for a while and our offense will be potent.

So why draft a RB with a valuable 2nd rd pick?

We keep investing in RBs year after year. The wins are not coming.

I get your point of view I just don't agree with the timing of this signing. We should have waited to see how Brooks looked. People forget he was the first RB off the board. This dude might be a game changer. That Chubba money could have been spent on a defensive starter.

I guess people feel differently...

    • I swear there are like 6 people on this godforsaken website that must be paid just to piss and moan all day in these stupid ass threads, for years on end, about fugging everything. Always something to whine about. If y'all aren't getting paid to professionally bitch about this team at every opportunity you need to reevaluate your lives because that ish is pathetic for grown ass men to be doing.  There are at least 50 other voices of reason in here. They're all smarter than you kneejerking perpetual contrarians. It's a fine contract. Our previous dipstick GM ran this team like some college kid that read a few Investopedia articles on technical trading and started throwing daddy's money at every positive indicator he saw - look what happened when Fitt drafted by RAS because he couldn't identify talent if it was footballs deep in his wife in the war room. It's a football team and this preoccupation with analytics, in this instance the positional value of RBs, is like 30% of the equation. It's not wholly inaccurate, but it requires a lot of context and, going back to the trading analogy, an understanding of the fundamentals. This is a sad, crappy organization that needs some winning attitudes in the locker room and on the field. $15 mil guaranteed over two years is nothing compared to the intangible value he brings, and the message the contract sends, not to mention his stellar work ethic and consistent improvement.
    • It boils down to either you believe in Chuba or you don't. For myself I 100% believe in him that he's a hard worker and a leader we want in the locker room. The issue is this investment paired with all the money we have tied up in the oline now (150 million in a single offseason) and Center is still a position of need going forward. Then there is the matter of the defense. Other than Derrick Brown and Jaycee Horn and maybe Wallace who has promise it's basically a wasteland. That cannot be understated. Dan Morgan is walking a tightrope here. Unequivocally he cannot play games with this QB room next season. Leave no stone unturned creating a real competition and actually have a real fallback plan.
    • To end all questions, I think we should start him rest of season as long as he does not hinder the young WR's and TE's development. In other words as long as he does not go back to super awful possibly worst QB ever plays scared and afraid Bruce that we saw most of his career so far then let him keep playing this season and make a decision on what to do with him in the off season. If he grows great , if he stays the exact same as he is now with no more development then ship him out. If he goes back to classic Bryce then sit him again and at seasons end ship him out. If by some snow balls chance in hell he actually develops and looks good by seasons end then hang onto him. Simple as that really. He controls his own destiny on what happens to his career here is my opinion.
