BREAKING:Panthers re-sign Chuba Hubbard

Recommended Posts

Hate investing this much into the RB position but with where we’re at we need guys like Chuba around.

It’s unfortunate he plays the position he does but we lack culture/identity and Chuba’s made progress every year he’s been here

I’m good with it

Yea people think you can find GOOD running backs easy when that's not the case lol. You see Dallas fans crying for a rb Cincinnati let theirs walk now they had to trade for one, the Giants let theirs walk and you see what that looks like.

They are paying WRs 27 million and stuff now so I don't worry much about 15 million guaranteed to Chuba, that's a couple of years between 8-9 million at worst probably.

That's like saying Rhule drafted a football player, not a long snapper (joke).

Position does have to play a role in this. I just don't think its a move we should have made. Is it a culture move? Sure I'll agree on that. Was it the right move? I guess we will have to watch it play out and see.

It's one of those moves I would normally be against, and if we were even a mid-tier team, it would look like a worse move as it doesn't really get us over the hump. But we are ass and we've been ass for years now.

Chuba came in and was ass, but worked super hard to improve year over year, became a really good player and has now been rewarded for it.

The locker room respects chuba, and you keep those guys around.

If we had paid him top 5 money, I'd be pissed, but an 8.3 mil per year averages out to 9th in the league on a yearly basis. Scratch out Sander's name on the payroll and write in Chuba's name next to the numbers. That's essentially what we did and I don't think anyone would argue that Chuba deserves that money more than Sanders.

This deal will not hamstring us for the future because it's essentially a 2 year deal when it's all said and done (perfect length for a RB extension).

The salary cap this year is 255.5 million. It will go up again next season, but let's say it doesn't. Chuba accounts for 3.2% of our overall cap each year (with that percentage decreasing each season as the cap goes up). I'm fine giving the guy producing 1/3 of all our offensive output 3% of the cap.

Good for Chubba he’s made himself into an excellent well rounded RB I’m not upset just disappointed the organization keeps making unwise decisions. The Chiefs just signed Kareem Hunt off the street and he’s been terrific for them

Kareem Hunt was all world before he pieced up that female in the hotel hall way. Stop it, bad example! What about San Fran's chaos and how they are all waiting around praying CMC makes it back this year. One good RB injury has Arizona leading that division! Quit with the media narrative that RBs are a dime a dozen. They are not and nobody from the outside media said Detroit was dumb for drafting Gibbs top ten last year. And if you could find a couple draft pundits who thought they had a better idea for the pick, boy does Detroit look smarter right now!

Y'all need some perspective - the man signed an $8.3M a year deal.  That makes him the 9th highest paid  RB in the league.  Is he not the 9th best RB in the league who isn't on a rookie deal?  By all means please give me the list of who is paid less that is better and NOT on a rookie deal?  I'll give you Derrick Henry and Aaron Jones (who will be higher this offseason and is only lower due to injury history).  In 2 years Chuba will be the 15th highest paid.  Plus 15th is only $1.5M less.  What exactly do you think we are gonna do to change this roster significantly with $1.5M a year?  That only buys us like 2 games from an Offensive Lineman...

This is a solid contract for a 25-yr old RB doing what he is doing.  And for those saying "why did we draft a RB in the 2nd round and do this?"  We are building the next 4-6 years - not making a 1-yr run to the SB.  Short-sighted leadership is what got us into this situation.  This guarantees us a solid starting RB for the next 4 years in this system at a mid-range price.  With literally 15-20 upgrades needed to be competitive we have 1 less to worry about overpaying for at an significant amount.

Like Hubbard.  On and off the field.

But this isn’t the type thing a team where the Panthers currently sit need to be making.  We just drafted a RB in round 2.   We have a billion needs.   We don’t have a great cap situation.  Tying up real money in a committee RB is a luxury move only good/win now teams should be making.

I haven't heard a damn thing out of the mid RBs that were supposed to be so serviceable and so good after we took Brooks. Only two have over 400yds with good ypc. Media narratives man.
