Specifically I'd guess he wanted Stroud

That’s interesting because he was one of the few people that we didn’t hear wanted Stroud. Reich and McCown we heard rumors about wanting Stroud, not Morgan. Pretty sure the articles pointed to Morgan being Fitt’s right hand man.

I’m sure everyone wanted Stroud now but that’s not what we heard. Also, I don’t recall Morgan even being involved on the QB side. It’s not like he has the background to pick a proper QB anyway.

No kidding. But he does have a background defending them including Mike Vick iirc. Looked it up, drafted the same year (2001).

The thing that got me so much is these defensive guys like Luke putting praise on Bryce Young when you cannot tell me that he would not have been salivating to see him across the LOS. I do not buy their praise.

Morgan played with Delhomme too and Jake couldn’t be much more different from Vick. Not sure what either of them would mean since Young sure wasn’t fast or as great at running as Vick and certainly didn’t have his arm. If Vick had any bearing, Morgan would have backed Tepper to take Fields and told Fitterer before he was officially hired a week after that draft. Heck, he could have traded for Fields from the Bears instead of trading for Young.

I was just saying Vick because he was very difficult to defend. Not as difficult as Young, or even close, IMO.

edit: and just thinking if Morgan had an opinion something like his game experience would influence it.

At the same time, I don't think anything he might have had to say would have changed anything. I guess it's more me saying that I don't feel like he would have been all in in on Young. Really, at the same time, I don't think he had a lot of influence on the pick.

Basically 2 drafts with no plus starters and 50%+ bust rate. Insane

50%? How about almost 100%? Iky was picked 6th overall. Sewell went 7th the year before. A tackle taken 6th should be a stud. We had 9 complete wastes, 2 backup level players and one maybe average starter and that was with pick 1, pick 6 and pick 1 in 2024. That’s likely the two worst drafts any GM has ever had back to back. You can point to some Hurney drafts but at least he still had Cam or Luke at the tops of terrible drafts. Even Matt Millen followed up Charles Rogers with Calvin Johnson. Fitt didn’t even get a really good player even with top or the draft picks.

Well that is certainly a pleasant surprise. It's a shame because Mingo seemed like a really good kid when we drafted him. But he didn't seem to want to put in the work to improve and didn't have the right mentality to become a great player at his position. Maybe this will wake him up. Either way not our problem anymore.

BTW. To the people who are rightfully shredding Scott Fitterer for selecting Mingo. Your courteous reminder that the current GM who just traded him was right there with Scott when we drafted him. Let's keep things in perspective if fingers are being pointed.

The conversation prolly went like this.

Morgan-  I don't see enough dawg in him....

Fitterereer- fk you...

All joking aside I'd be fine if Morgan were that ruthlessly honest. We need some of that here. But unfortunately every indication says he and Scott had a full on bromance going. They were legitimately good friends. I imagine there were some minor things they disagreed on but as far as approach to football they bonded because they shared many similarities. The best hope I can take from all that going forward is that Dan has gotten a firsthand look at a GM fail spectacularly and can apply that as a learning tool. But let's be real here. If this were one of our division rivals we would all be laughing our asses off at them for finding themselves in such a situation after so much losing.
