Bryce Young QB School

I'm not really getting Lamar Jackson vibes from watching Ward, tho he is very dynamic and exciting too. He just doesn't seem as athletic / elusive.  But I'm pretty much just watching highlights, so I could be wrong.

I don't think he needs to be Lamar to be real successful from what I'm seeing tho.

Baker has won one playoff game and Darnold had a good first half of a season, not unlike his tenure here.
Jameis Winston still sucks. What other top 3 picks are still relevant that makes this a “trend”?

When did I say top 3 picks? Talking about starters who were unsuccessful or sent packing from one team to find more success on another--- Goff? Carr? Geno Smith?  Darnold? Baker?  --heck, if you take those QBs alone (5) you are talking about over 15% of the league.  But you are looking at performance and I am looking at skill set and fit.  What you did not mention is the bust rate for the rookie qbs who are drafted.  Why is that?  Fit and, in my view, opportunity to develop. I know that it is easy to say, "I saw this on TV"  or "but he has only been good for a short amount of time"  well, this process is not a lifetime achievement award.  Darnold was here for a half season--did he ever show the success he did here as he has in Minnesota?  Nope.  So what is the difference?  FIT.

My point?  If Jones is a top 7 QB over the past 3 years when throwing from a clean pocket and here, we will have a top running back room (Hubbard and Brooks), a good young WR room, a good young developing TE, and a veteran, top 5 offensive line--those are the conditions that would make him throw from clean pockets.  That is all I am saying--did I give him a gold jacket?  I said it was risky.  So is drafting a QB.  I also mentioned other ways our team could improve.

But you decide to put words in my mouth and then argue against those words.  Brilliant.

So trying to reboot Bridgewater, Darnold, and Mayfield's careers weren't enough... Now we're pushing for Daniel Jones?

Ergh. If he's cheap while we develop a rookie, fine.  But I have no interest in building around another team's reject. We have our own rejects to build around 🥴

Likewise. Not sure how you are seeing that. Have definitely never seen that comp from anyone else.

It's his drop back/playing style from the pocket.  He and Lamar look so casual back there and both can launch the ball with a flick of the wrist.  However, Ward doesn't have Lamar's running ability at all.  He can run, but not like Lamar and he can't make defenders miss like that, especially in the next level.

They are not the only QB's that have ever played with a seemingly casual style. Really outside that they are not very similar at all.

And where did anyone say they were? I’m saying that’s where the comp comes from. I agree they are different. No two QBs are the same even that Nebraska QB is different than Mahomes no matter how hard he tries…

    • Okay, that day in Vegas had to embarrass him completely. Andy showed him how to do the job.  What I think when I go there, why did it take Andy? He has had game after game of watching actual NFL QBs work and that didn't do it?  Anyhow Andy did not mess around, he stood in there and did his job and got rid of the ball ahead of the pressure. Down the field. With the same players Bryce had. Night and day.  If that didn't wake him up nothing ever would. But I don't think he has any sort of top NFL QB in him, he just lacks the full tool kit.
    • Team is dangerous right now, all four lines are contributing and the speed at which the guys play at is tremendous.
    • And every nfl player wannabe tries to up their draft position through things like the combine and theyre all basically lying though those drills theyve practiced hundreds of times that have little bearing on if theyre a good football player. The pro days are even worse. All you have to do is dupe 1 team. Is it right? No. But until teams put more emphasis on college tape vs. What they did in shorts with no defense it'll happen every year. I doubt there is a single player that wouldn't try anything to up their draft prospects.  Young had years of tape and that shouldve been what the decision was based on. Not a scale and throwing in shorts.  ( btw I think the combine and pro days are 90% a waste of time) Young has it financially made already. It's up to him if he wants to be a good football player too. I think the benching was the best thing that could've happened to him. It remains to be seen if it was enough
