Bryce Young QB School

I don't think you have to worry about keeping Young as the starter as long as Canales is making the call. If they are winning with him then it solves the situation for now. If they are losing with him then he's gone as soon as they can find a replacement. Investment will not control his fate now.  Only winning.

You keep saying that. Maybe you are right, I do not have that trust.

edit: two years of excuses have me feeling like that, and there are some being built in as we speak with the defense and the depleted WR corps now.

Here's my thoughts on it.

Breakdown is good. Balanced and legit like a coach would break down film.

Bryce has clearly put in the work. I think his benching may have been the best thing for him. Let him internalize and see the team be led properly, see a QB do things in the same offense that we haven't seen Bryce consistently try (like taking shots down field) so he can get his head away from "just protect the ball and don't mess up" which is where I think he was those first 2 weeks.

Bryce could've gone for like 250 yards and at least one more TD with no picks if those two letdowns didn't happen on the deep balls. He had a legitimate NFL qb good day. Albeit against a bad defense but still, good play is good play.

Bryce can cement his job back with another win and another strong outing.

I think the screen volume was due to the constant heavy blitz looks. We need to do less of that and more hitting weak spots on quick hits outside and over the middle. We saw some of that but more is needed in place of so many screens.

Bryce may be in the process of actual development. Nobody needs to be overly excited yet, because he can still fug this up. But ball is clearly in his court. Play well and put the questions to bed.

Just saying, when you use 'ifs' to build up the positive without adding in the negative 'ifs' to counterbalance, you get that optimistic picture.

If you take the 'if' thing and apply it to the negatives that didn't happen but could have, you probably have two interceptions and their consequences to include in the equation.

Oh don't get me wrong I don't think Bryce is the longterm answer by any means. But people want us to draft Cam ward 1 overall. I'd much rather build the team up this offseason

The OLine is already built.

You have young (and apparently decent) weapons at both starting WR spots, TE and RB.

I mean sure we need a pass rush and a whole host of defenders, but the O is ready to slot a competent QB in to.

The D is going to take multiple Drafts to fix. Prime Warren Sapp / Ray Lewis / Ed Reed wouldn't fix the defence as it's currently constructed. Too many awful players.

I agree with your take

He’s made a couple throws these last two games with some big time anticipation. Which was supposed to be one of his strengths coming into the league. Bryce has taken more shots downfield as well. Even just throwing a couple up to Sanders this past Sunday that led to positive gains. One by completion the other by PI. Bryce wasn’t doing those things last year.

There’s for sure been progress made but again small sample size.

Like you said about the screens to counter the blitzes I think we saw some similar calls in Denver where the play design wasn’t to get a first down but just to get the ball out quick and not have Bryce take a sack or get hit.

I think his personal life/gf situation was playing a bit of role early this season as well. Bryce was smiling throughout the game on Sunday and I don’t remember ever seeing that before. Hopefully he just starts playing more freely and we’ll see what happens.

The quickest way for us to become competitive again is for Bryce to be who they had hoped he’d be. Do I think that’ll happen? No but after the last 2 games I’m at least semi excited to see what happens this Sunday

The bottom line is bryce looks vastly better than weeks 1 and 2 and there is no reason to not play him moving forward. There is no downside. If he starts sucking again we are right back where we are right now. But if he can continue to improve (even if he will never be a top 10 QB) we can build the team around him and bide our time till the right QB becomes available.

I was excited, and am excited, to see where Bryce goes from here. This was his best game top to bottom. We don't know if he will never be a Top 10 QB because he went from looking like a CFL back-up to promising player in two weeks. I honestly don't recall ever seeing such a leap in QB play from week to week from anyone.

I felt like we won in spite of coaching, honestly.

We won with a second year QB, a rookie TE, two rookie receivers, a new LT, the NFL's worst defense, etc. It's pretty crazy.

The Broncos fixed their shitty defense in one offseason while also drafting a QB in the first. It’s possible to do both. DB coming back and players being healthy will help. We haven’t seen Wonnum with Clowney yet. Nothing crazy but should be much better than what we’ve seen. Add some mid tier young FAs and another good draft and who knows how it looks.

We are so close to having a really clean cap situation we just need to bite the bullet next offseason and build for 2026.  We dont need to be signing any mid tier players unless its a 1 year deal.  Especially if this front office is thinking of rolling another rookie out there at qb.

agreed but its not a strong defensive draft this year.  At least not at the top and not for pass rushers

I'm starting to like what I'm seeing from the penn state DE, also speaks to my point of trading down to acquire a future first if someone is dumb enough

Hes not bad, still raw but there is no miles garret, peppers, hutchinson etc in this draft IMO.  Maybe one emerges but as of now its a toss up who the best defensive player is.
