clogged shower drain

Soo very gross! And first thing in the morning. Long curly hair that gets wrapped aroung the prongs about 3" down and catches gets built up with skin, body washes, bubble baths, shampoo, and conditioner run-off is a bitch to get untangled to unclog the shower drain. It's like the stopper grows a dreadlock.

Drano does nothing for it.

How do you prevent it? I have to do it at least once a year and would be much more frequntly if I washed my hair more than twice a week. And I try to get the loose ones in my hand and put them aside so they don't go down the drain.

Stop taking showers? Cut your hair?

j/k

Mama-San had the same problem. She would put the loose hair on the shower wall and then collect them when she was done. We got one of those rubber strainers for the drain and it worked fine. It fits over and catches pretty much everything including my boogers.

I hated having to clean out the drain, nasty job.

I got this thing at Home Depot for a few bucks that is made of a flexible plastic and looks like this

(edges that point up and away on each side, the site will not let me do spaces for it right)

You remove the drain cover and snake it down into the drain and pull it up, the edges pick up all the crud and things run OK again. My fiancee and her daughter have really long hair...

I think that it's called "Zip-It". We have one and it does work great.

I was wondering if something like that existed!

But just as I was starting to get my appetite back a bit from the drain, and then a pic I saw of a friend's cat who has big holes in her hip, then you mention boogers!!! :puke:

Ohhh nooooo (in the voice of the geico girl). I don't think that will work. I've got the little screw-in thing that you twist up and down to stop the water or let it out. And I 99% of the time take baths while using the hand-held shower head to wash my hair.

that thing is brilliant!!!

I was going to suggest brushing your hair before you get in the shower, to help remove some of the loose ones...but BB&B kicked ass on my idea

A curly-haired girl knows to NEVER brush her hair - it'll ruin the curls. (Hell, I don't even use shampoo anymore...)
