Come back Flip

Besides Larry Hughes and DJ Augustin, who wouldn't want Flip back next year?

Ex-Bobcat Flip Murray said before the game he'd happily come back to Charlotte next season if the Bobcats were interested in signing him again.

He will be a free agent and he was obviously a big part of the Bobcats, both on and off the court, before they were forced to use his salary slot in the deal that brought power forward Tyrus Thomas here from Chicago.

I like his shooting better than Hughes. Hughes has better defense but we have guys to fill that void.

Since they didn't trade him for Hughes, people who feel the need to keep comparing him to Hughes are idiots.

Compare him to Tyrus Thomas.

Now, do you want to get rid of Thomas?

Actually, when talking about next year's roster, a comparison between Flip and Hughes makes perfect sense, since one, but not both will likely be on the team.

Considering Flip and Hughes play the same position when they come in, MOST of the time, yeah you can compare.

Also both seasoned vets that come off the bench etc.

Do you watch any of the games? I'm wondering.

Thats great to hear from Flip. It wouldnt be terrible to get him back. I agree with Porn Shop Clerk that it's much harder to find a promising young big like TT than a 2 who can score. All that said... I'd much rather have Shannnon Brown back.

If that's what people MEANT when they compare Hughes to Flip, I wouldn't have said it, but that's not what they mean.

Besides, Larry Hughes is not even one of the first two guards off the bench. Augustine and Graham are. When he was here, Flip was the first one off the bench, and he played some point guard.

Would you have wanted to trade one of them in order to keep Flip?

Would you rather still have Flip here playing Point and SG off the bench, and limited minutes for Augustine and basically none for Graham?

Nothing would have changed had Hughes not been signed.

Flip would still be in Chicago...because he was traded for Tyrus Thomas.

What is your IQ?

People have constantly acted like Hughes took Flip Saunders' spot, when the fact is Hughes was picked up well after Saunders was gone.

Tyrus Thomas and Flip were swapped in a trade, not Flip and Hughes, so to keep acting like you have HUGHES INSTEAD OF Flip is just stupid.

You have THOMAS instead of Flip.

PERIOD.

Love this post... you start by questioning the intelligence of another poster and then compare Larry Hughes to the former Pistons Head Coach. Of course no one wants to compare Larry Hughes to Flip Saunders. Second, yes... it's perfectly rational to compare Hughes and Ronald Murray. We traded Ronald away and then quickly signed Hughes to take the spot vacated by the traded Ronald Murray.

I think what you don't get is that by trading Flip for TT and picking up Hughes... we essentially had very little drop off at the 2... and got much stronger at the 4.... thus the comparison can and should be drawn.

    • In the same order I listed it. 1. Fix the talent evaluation 2. Use that better evaluation to build an NFL caliber roster 3. Continue to build depth and plan to replace key people as they age out and price out.    Those are the cornerstones of building long term success in terms of roster makeup. Even at times in our history when we got Step 1 correct and then did a decent job of Step 2, we have never been able to maintain Step 3 for various FO and coaching/on field reasons. This is essentially what Richardson was trying to do with the thought of emulating the Steelers. Our execution has just been horrible. And we don't need to hit HR after HR at any of those steps, we just need to get more right than wrong. And you need to get the critical elements correct(core players, coaches, etc). Once that starts to go sideways, the whole thing falls apart and we are back to the boom and bust cycle.   As far as what we as fans can do? Nothing but watch. We the franchise, well they already think they are doing these things. I heartily disagree so we will see what happens.
    • I really liked XL.  But I'm not expecting much from him this year given he is paired with Bryce.  I just think for XL to shine with his talents.....he needs a downfield gambler.  I think Brooks will slowly be brought along and we don't see his debut until in season.     That's our top 3 rounds...and really where you would be looking for rookie impact.  Rest should more than likely be developmental and have minimal impact.  So I expect fans to get down on our draft picks early.  I think the G play could get praise but C being such a wildcard (as well as Canales' run game) has that as not the lock I think some have it has.  Plus, I think Bryce simply can make the OL look bad given his size the problem he has in so many traditional settings/placement in the pocket.
    • Okay so when is that changing? How does it change, and how do we operate in the meantime?
