Slowing my roll on Ward (for now)

Pretty much. We really shot ourselves in the dick by the massive trade up to take a bust. Drafting a bust in the 1st round hurts but it doesn't kill you. Trading multiple firsts along with other draft picks and your #1 WR for a bust is what kills you.

This trade is still mind boggling when you write it out like that. And it was for a 5’9” midget with a weak arm and no internal motivation to be great at his job.

Sanders is the same height as Mahomes and only 9 pounds lighter. His weight and size are in line and he operates well from the pocket. He doesn’t have a cannon but his arm is solid. He looks to be the most NFL ready, but people were also saying that about Young so who knows….

Last night my son and I were checking out Ward and Sanders. When Sanders flexed after a QB, my son literally said, "Man he's small." Sure I realize it's an anecdote, but my son has an uncanny ability to be right when it comes to certain things NFL (even though he's not as fanatical as me).

On an off note, for the record, he said "I don't know," as it pertained to Ward. And then, while we were looking at Shedeur, he later said, "We should pick Hunter and just leave those two guys alone." He does think Hunter is going play both positions. I told him that that's probably not going to work, and he told me that if Hunter must choose, he's playing WR. He said, "Who is going to pick cornerback over wide receiver when looking at cornerback money and wide receiver money?"

Ward and Sanders are roughly the same size 6’2” and 215 plus. Ward might have 5-10 pounds on him but both are pretty standard QB sizes. It’s that Lamar, Rodgers, Mahomes range. Taller than Baker, Hurts, Tua but shorter than Burrow and Goff. Then you have Josh Allen who is tall and huge but that’s not common.
If we aren’t going QB that edge from Penn St, Carter is enticing… just not sure if he is 1st overall pick material or not.

We need a new QB. We shouldn't pick one in this draft before the third or fourth round.

It's not about the QB position at all.

It's about building a team. We need to concentrate on defense right now, nowhere else. We need the best D-lineman and/or the best MLB in the first round. Players who can impact every single play of the game. DB would be great, but it's a luxury that we can't afford in the first round. We've got to grab the best first or second level defender available to us, perhaps trade back in to the first for a second dip.

At QB, we just need to grab a journeyman vet out there and roll into next season with the intention of building a strong defense under a new defensive coordinator. Build the defense well and it will give a young QB more chances.

totally agree, they need to Prepare the Roster by loading up on talent they can trade away to move up for a QB after they lock themselves in QB purgatory

it’s time we try this fresh new approach

I heard Jim Nagy (head of senior bowl) say something insightful the other day. He basically was like prospects rarely jump up more than three rounds in a season. So basically a guy that is graded a 6th round pick even if he has a great season usually only moves up to a third round grade. Apparently Cam Ward had like a 6th round grade prior to this season, is he really all of a sudden a first round prospect, much less a number one overall pick?

This draft to me just feels like the kenny pickett year
