Chase Daniels breaks down Bryce vs DEN

He actually said that 10 people in the world could make that down the left sideline throw.
He left out whether it was one time or every time.
I will say he hung in there and made a couple of throws that I have not seen from him. The hanging in part. So, good. But he is  not staying in or stepping up in that pocket nearly enough. OL though, they gave up too much pressure.

This was a good breakdown from Daniels.  Last year has had a lasting impact on Young.

  • He still isn't getting the time needed from the OL - the OL we have is made to establish the run and for the run to be in play.  We get behind and have to throw all game we are doomed with this O-line.
  • His receivers have to catch the ball when he makes a good throw to them, he can't have them dropping his good passes.
  • Why are we running 4 slants all toward the same direction?  Why a triple option on 4th and 1? That's on the coaches.
  • Bryce gets hurried and starts slinging the ball where it shouldn't be thrown, more study and recognition from him are needed.
  • Bryce doesn't step up in the pocket and throws too soon and unbalanced.  He over and under throws the ball because of it.  That's on him.  If the pocket isn't there and he can't get his base set he needs to check down or "live to fight another day."

He has been thrown to the wolves and has lost his confidence.  This team doesn't have much, if any, talent and it's a cluster.  I think he can still be an NFL QB.  Maybe not a QB1 in the short term, but if he has a chance with better coaching and personnel he may be better than we are giving him credit for.

I think we ruined him last year and have not fixed anything to help him this year.  If we can't run or get way behind all NFL defenses are coming after him.  Dalton has more respect and defenses didn't always sell out to get to him because he'd hit a quick slant, screen, or check down because he has the experience to know what's coming and what to do.

Just my 2 cents.

Chuba would have gotten 4-5 yards on the triple option if he got the handoff.  But yes, the offense sucks and not even a decent vet backup can make it look good except for a fluke game. If Bryce doesn’t run more and take 3-4 yards if the throw isn’t there, it will continue to stagnate

Thanks for posting this. While this was far from a great performance, this critique shows what some of us noticed last week. Bryce played "a little better". There is some talent there.

But, as you pointed out we really don't have a great pass blocking line for dropping back each down when we are behind. BY has got some bad habits and physical limitations. At times his teammates let him down. The play calling isn't always the best.

I hope he can learn from last week and show us some improvement in the Saints game.

150 million dollars spent on the OL in free agency and he feels bad for Bryce Young. Not the fans who were told by Bryce how he started his offseason watching Netflix and going shopping.

Then in the comments there's some maniac rambling about how Bryce actually had a good deep ball in college only to slink away when someone gives him the actual data compared to other Alabama QB's.

The disconnect on realistically evaluating him and the bizarre lengths some will go to form excuses is on another level.

I'm ready to see how he plays against the Saints at home. Good thing it's already Friday.
