Do you resign Dalton for one more season?

I see him as a bridge. Knowledgeable.

He won’t win you games, but I’m not sure he’s really supposed to either. I see his role as someone who can at least complete a catchable pass and show our receivers some of the finer points of the game.

With him throwing the ball in practice and in games, I can see our receivers and line having a chance to at least improve. Get a rhythm. Tempo.

Will he throw picks? Hell yes he will throw picks. Lots. Will he win us some games? Yes. Lots? Um, nope. Will the individual players improve around him? I actually think so.

So this leads to the ultimate question: What is the ultimate goal/purpose of the bridge QB?

Win half of the games and kill draft position? Lose all games and destroy all morale, get players injured, promising players regress and coaches get fired?

I argue that the perfect bridge QB is a veteran almost has been who has played at a high level for a time, student of the game and knows the finer points. Will make plays that give receivers a chance to develop. Since his style of play is predictable, the offense can develop a rhythm, hopefully helping to avoid injury.

ALSO:

They have to be just bad enough to lose you most of your games reliably. throw 2-3 TDs in a game, but also be good for a critical pick and/or strip sack.

To me, this guy IS Andy. We need a good pick, so we need to lose, but we can’t let our young talent get hurt with hospital balls or grow stale with dump offs all game and never being targeted. You can’t have the locker room hate the guy because he’s going to murder their payoff contract. Guys will still have a chance to show out, but they’ll still lose quite a lot.

He knows his role and he seems to be cool with it. I’d be 100% cool with him being a tutor for whomever we draft as our QB going forward.

We'll see. I thought he looked good for New Orleans that half of season he played before injury. And while he did get lucky to not throw some ints, he threw some absolute dimes deep down field that Bryce/Dalton could only dream of.

I really don't understand why he hasn't been a starter for a team in the past couple of years. I think 1/4 of the NFL teams would be better with him at QB than who they currently have.

I could think of worse though to hold us over for a few years while we find our new QB to draft

And dalton threw dimes against the raiders too. All of these guys are backups for a reason. They can give you 1-2 good games before the film or their limitations start to show and then you’re reminded why they weren’t starting in the first place.

Does Dalton have any flaws?

How close do you want to look? You can always find them.

For me, it is the Bryce's big buddy aspect that I don't find any attraction in. If he wants to whore himself out to be the next guy's big buddy I have no problem with him. He is a pro.

If he’s happy in a backup role I’d love to have him back just to be a QB in the room who has had success(however limited) in Canales’s offense.

I’m after any semblance of consistency year over year.

I thought the goal was not to continue this mess. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. Right?

No, its pointless. We can find guys with higher upside easily, we arent winning poo outside of a few meaningless games with Dalton.

There's no upside to any of the street FA'S. If there were they would already be employed. They are just younger without the nfl pedigree. I would not consider any of them as a reliable bridge to the future. Anyone they sign will not change the fortunes of this team. They are going to have to draft their way out of this.

The veteran market is awful. Winston is the best of the bunch and that’s not saying much. They have to draft 2 QBs in 2025

I think they draft one in the next draft. I think who will make the selection is currently in doubt. I still say it will be Tepper and possibly a new GM and Coach.

    • LeBron not getting enough attention he had to announce to the world he's leaving social media for the time being lol   This man about to be 40. This is kid like behavior and I'm a fan of LeBron. Cmon bro do better.
    • Does anyone else see this as the beginning of the end of Freddie Andersen? It started as a day-to-day. Escalated to week-to-week: Brind'Amour announced that Andersen was considered week-to-week with the injury. He said, "That's a little more time than I was hoping, but hopefully we'll get an update every week". Next: Brind'Amour later said that Andersen's injury would be "way longer" than expected. Now: https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/toronto-maple-leafs/latest-news/report-former-maple-leafs-goaltender-frederik-andersen-shut-down-by-hurricanes-to-miss-roughly-8-weeks-following-knee-surgery According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, Andersen is set to undergo surgery that will keep him out of the team's lineup for "roughly" eight weeks. Who here believes the Canes will roll with Kochetkov and Martin without making a move?
    • Meniscus maybe? I can't see it being ligaments or he would be done for the year.
