Dan Morgan is an awful GM

As stated before, we don’t know what his stance was inside the office on certain key moves. Fitter and Tepper definitely signed off on them. But we have no idea on Morgan.

for and against, it’s pure speculation because none of us were in that room. That’s my point.

the argument that Dan Morgan was assistant GM for years while running counter to everything both his bosses signed off on (who look down at him and his staff for info).....is a tough sell.

I feel we do a variant of this every year.  You aren't this bad...becuase of 1 person.  You are this bad because of LOTS of bad people.

It was never just Joe Brady.  Which is why firing him didn't lead to better offense.  It was never just Matt Rhule.  It was never just Fitterer.

As bad as we are, we need to scorch Earth this puppy and quit letting people who were part of making the mess be the designed folks to lead us out of the mess.

when David Tepper and Jim Caldwell found the answer on the roster......it was clear from the jump nothing had really changed.

Seriously, it’s his first year at GM, what has he done wrong?

Johnson trade and the Burns trades needed to happen and we just didn’t have any leverage. We got $61m in dead cap that he inherited.

So let’s hear it?

1) Signed 2 high profile guards to big contracts. Did we need guards? Yes. But there's a reason you draft guards and pay tackles. It's easier to find solid guards in the draft. Now we have the most expensive line in the league and still can't get 100 yards passing before halftime.

2) Traded up to get a RB when we didn't really need one. Chuba is one of the better RBs in the league right now and while it is a contract year, we had a crap ton of holes all over. Brooks was a luxury pick we didn't have the luxury to make.

3)Spending a small fortune to build a supporting cast for BY. Bryce didn't even put the work in himself during the offseason by his own admission. We didn't need to build an offense specifically for BY. We brought in DJ and drafted XL. These guys need a QB with a live arm. That's not BY. Speed kills but not when your QB can't legitimately make an accurate, deep ball strike without putting a ton of air under it and floating it.

4. Not looking for a true center. There were several available and it's been a position of need for years. We could have had our choice but we rolled with Corbitt, who did look good at the spot, but had an injury bug that struck again this year.

5) He didn't bring in any serious competition for Bryce. Now you can say that BY needs time to develop and we needed to show we had faith in him, blah blah blah. But the simple matter of fact is Bryce looked like a PS QB last year, Andy has one foot in the QB grave, and there was never an attempt to actually compete for the job. If he genuinely believed that BY was going to magically make it all come together watching YT and chillin for 4 months to unplug, then there's nothing else that needs to be said.

The goal of every GM should be to build a winning team. Players are commodities and loyalty leads you to an early walk out the door. We've tried to build a system to work around the most limited QB in NFL history. 60 years of history should have told him it was never going to work. And benching BY after 2 games is the real truth, he never should have been starting anyway. And either Dan should have known that as the great MLB that he was after watching BY's game tape, or someone else is making the call and Dan is just rubberstamping that decision.

Either way, doesn't matter. We're screwed because we've devoted 2 years of resources to build around a player that didn't put in the work in the off season after one of the worst NFL QB seasons ever.

We don't need to know what % was his fault last year because it was all bad enough to know to not sign up for more of it. Look at the stuff he was directly responsible for being the point man on, the pro-personnel, and the stuff he was involved in should tell you enough. If you have to discount it to make it look better than you already knew the answer. It's just making excuses for all of those people. Hoping something changes while discounting the work they already done here has proven to be a losing strategy every time so far. Maximus Copius Bulshitetus i think is the Latin name for that phenonium.

It's truly insane how Young wasn't ready for NFL defenses and he just gave up halfway through his rookie season and never tried again.

ex-NFL exec tells Pat McAfee Diontae Johnson deal was a 'ridiculous trade' by Panthers

Still completely baffled at how little we got in return. Noted obese person Kelvin Benjamin netted a 3rd rounder and all Morgan can get for Diontae is moving up 10 spots in the 5th/6th AND you agree to pay his salary. This team is run by idiots.

From everything I’ve read he was incredibly toxic, and everyone knew about it. So there was no chance to get anything of real value for him, but he needed to get off the team. So in the real world it makes a lot of sense.

Obviously a lot of Huddlers would have gotten at least multiple high picks for him…

I think it was a few days after the Bears loss I got a notification of a new press conference clip from the Panthers YouTube channel and the headline was about Diontae bloviating about losing a boat to Helene in the midst of all the devastation here to families in North Carolina. I can definitely buy that he was self absorbed and probably not the most pleasant to be around those last few weeks in particular.

Anywho some people here were for some reason throwing around a 3rd round pick as return compensation and that was always a pipe dream. Most reasonable people seemed to expect a 4th or 5th at best. I think the ire now is in response to us basically taking everything else on the chin in regards to his salary and basically swapping picks just to rid ourselves of the supposed headache. All this just says Morgan never should have traded for him. He was available for a reason. I'll be interested to see how things go for him in Baltimore. Suffice to say the Ravens are very unlikely to have near as much patience with his antics as the Panthers were.

So I know Dans gotten a lot of crap for the Johnson trade, but I think it’s best to keep things like this into perspective.

With a good old song by Kenny Rogers:

Moral of the story is sometimes you get dealt a hand that puts you in a no win situation, and you have to play the hand as best you can. You can’t get caught up on what lead to this point. It’s all in how you play it going forward.

facts: Johnson needed to be traded if we were gonna get anything for him.

holding onto him served absolutely no long term benefit, he wasn’t gonna resign here.

Everyone in the NFL knew this and we had no leverage as a result. In short, we had a poo hand and everyone knew it.

Calling Dan a bad GM based on this trade is just short sighted and reactionary.

Honestly, this is a bad take. I think if we didn’t pay most of the rest of his salary you might have a point but we barely got any value and still took the cap hit.

If you are getting that little you hold on and go for a comp pick. At least then you are getting a 5th rounder without giving up a high 6th for it. We took the salary hit just to move up a few picks. Again, the player we draft at the Ravens 5th is likely available at our early 6th.

Even if DJ is a problem you just keep him inactive and wait and see if you get a better offer. I mean with Diggs out, I can’t fathom you couldn’t have gotten a 5th from Houston or at least swap picks and they cover the full salary.
