Hunter vs Tmac who you got?

Recommended Posts

Say we decide to trade back and not draft a QB. Both players are on the board who do you prefer we take?

Hunter is a elite DB prospect who happens to have the ability to also play WR. He's a threat to score after the INT. Some think he will play both ways I don't. If we draft him I would just use him at DB and have one of the best DB tandems in football with Horn/Hunter.

Tmac is a 6'5 fast and fluid with his routes. If you ask me he's better than last year prospect Harrison Jr. He's already had a 300 yard game and a 200 yard game in this season with a QB who's not really good imo. He's the next great WR.

Both elite prospects and these guys are the only other game changing prospects I see in this draft besides the 2 QB's Sanders/Ward.

Who you got?

I like Tmac as a WR more but like Hunter as a DB. It would be a great thing to have Tmac as another WR but that would be two WR's in teg first round two years in a row without a major QB to throw to them. It's sort of like having a Ferrari with no steering wheel or tires to drive it. And then of course there is a huge issue with our terrible defense. Yes injuries have been bad this year but would the defense have been good without the injuries? We have a few decent players like Horn and Brown but defense needs so much more help.

As much as I like Tmac I would say go defense in draft and continue to develop XL and Coker. Thielen and Johnson are probably gone unfortunately so perhaps sign a WR in free agency that can contribute and hopefully not break the bank or draft one in later rounds that can actually develop like Coker has or is currently?

And god I don't know what to do as far as QB. Honestly I'd take Jamis Winston for a while. He has always been solid if he can just keep the ints under control. Plus he has awesome pregame antics that are harmless but hilarious.

Sounds like a good way to piss off a player and guarantee they don't stick around longer than they have to. Seriously what's the 3 year outlook without a QB with a wasted disgruntled WR? Traded or forced to be kept while the other players see how we treat talent? Pass on all that.

A CB at the top? Hard pass. They need core guys and that's just not DBs. If those are the options then just trade back. Horn is out there looking regular behind thay front 7. Sounds like more waste to me.

I don't think a NFL team is going to play Hunter 2 ways.  That's a college thing.  Guess it depends what position he commits to being around draft time.

I like him best at corner.  But much like Horn....I didn't want Horn or Surtrain in the top 10 given what we were at the time.

I don't want a DB in the top 5 given what we are now either.  I don't think Hunter is going to slide far back enough in the draft for me to want to take him.   It's an us thing, not a Hunter thing.

I think we need to be targeting the best DE/LB talent in the top rounds.

Some packaged looks on the other side but yeah not full time 2 ways.

I didn't even know who TMac was until now.

I still like Hunter better.  He is a gamechanger and dynamic.  I think obviously he'd be more of a DB snd used much like Woodson, Deion, and Hester were early...  mostly just a guy to run streaks if you do use them on offense to stretch the field, but otherwise, they're primarily DBs.  I watched something recently where a former pro WR (might've been Ocho?) critiqued Hunter's route running and they said he just isn't very refined...  he's just an incredible athlete.  Still would be fun to have the possibility.

At this point, we just need blue chip talent on the team regardless of position. I would go with Hunter and play him at CB, he can be used sparingly at WR on special packages too. I believe Devin Hester was originally a CB but played some WR too.

in modern NFL, Bill Belichick I think was the king of the 2 way player.

Vrabel, Edleman, Brown, all had legit snaps on the other side of the ball

If Morgan is wanting a dawg he picks Hunter. Hunter never really has an off game and is a competitor/playmaker. Also if you are picking Hunter this high you make him a WR/weapon on offense. I think in this scenario we would have signed a vet QB before the draft. Hunter, XL, Coker, Brooks, and JT could be fun.

I want Hunter as a DB.

If you drafting him for a WR wouldn't you just take Tmac?

I'm assuming you think Hunter is a better WR prospect over Tmac correct?

    • If there's another QB that came to the combine after packing on 15 lbs of water weight to hide his playing weight, I don't remember it.  I understand it's all part of the pre-draft game, and he participated. The FO was stupid and ignored huge red flags.  On a side note though, I was at the airport a few weeks ago and saw a basketball team going through and decided to try and look through them. I'm 6'2 and these guys were 6'6 and up. I was amazed by how much I couldn't see around them. And these guys weren't 300 plus in pads. I still think he's having a hell of a time seeing the field at the NFL speed.
    • There is merit to the points you're making here. On the flip side one could argue it took us investing 150 million in the oline for him to have a breakout season. And he has still yet to hit 1k rushing yards in a season. As far as Brooks goes the position does not require that significant of a draft investment for many other teams. That's not being negative it's just a matter of fact. The 49ers did quite well with a UDFA running back while McCaffrey was out. It is understandable that some people have concerns. That being said it boils down to whether or not you believe in the player. We just have to see what happens with him and Brooks.
    • Okay, that day in Vegas had to embarrass him completely. Andy showed him how to do the job.  What I think when I go there, why did it take Andy? He has had game after game of watching actual NFL QBs work and that didn't do it?  Anyhow Andy did not mess around, he stood in there and did his job and got rid of the ball ahead of the pressure. Down the field. With the same players Bryce had. Night and day.  If that didn't wake him up nothing ever would. But I don't think he has any sort of top NFL QB in him, he just lacks the full tool kit.
