Canales equals disappointing

This…although we are very close to being that anyway

It seems to be why we hired Canales in the first place.

But no one - not involved - in choosing Bryce Young with the overall top pick of all players in the draft pool, should have his fate tied to Bryce's fate. That is just completely unfair.

I know it probably has already happened but still.

Honestly, at this point with just a few games to show what he’s made of, he might be my favorite Panthers coach in history. At least he takes chances and doesn’t tuck his tail in between his legs with a minute to go before the half.  The fake punt didn’t work, but I liked the call at that point in the game. He’s still learning, but I like his mindset. Haven’t ever been able to say that before.

I am hitting this again before falling out.

He does not do things like everyone else. I like that. I admire people that operate that way. I feel like it shows a lot of self confidence and don't think it is being done without something behind it, just to be different.

Innovators are always questioned. And they were all unknown or unacknowledged as such, before they got that 'title'. They probably failed at first. Not even probably... they did.

I am only making note of the difference in approach, it doesn't confirm the validity of it or that it will prove to be innovative. But I like the mindset like I tried to say. I hate to see the tar and feathers come out so joyously.

LOL we are 1-7 currently & probably going to finish with a worse record this season than we had last year & Bryce Young has shown no real signs of improving upon last years overall performance .that's after bringing in an upgrade at WR in Diontae Johnzon  & drafting a WR in the 1st round & bringing back all the WR's  from last season as well & then  nvesting millions into the oL & after all that somehow the offense overall is worse this year than last season  ?

so if it's not Canales fault well who the hells fault is it for showing no signs of improvement on the offensive side of the ball after all those aforementioned upgrades  ?

oh let me guess it's the defenses fault ?

I hear you. But most of the time I can generally decipher these kinds of posts. It's a message board after all.

His point does have some merit though. The Panthers invested an insane amount of money into the interior of the OL and we traded up with our first two draft picks to select offensive players and Canales absolutely had input in all that. So the complaints about the defense ultimately land on both Morgan and Canales because they made their bed.

But despite all that investment in the offense to the direct detriment of the defense we are 29th in points per game and 29th in yards per game. Canales is running out of excuses. Next year we need to see definitive tangible improvement or both he and Morgan should be on the chopping block.

I am not minding him as a head coach so far as I realize it's a throw away year and he is learning but I feel he needs to have an offensive coordinator that he likes or believes in calling plays. He needs to be the head coach and not take on two jobs. With all that said I still expect to see this team looking better prepared by seasons end and definitely next season because my patience for a head coach only goes so far for so long. He gets a few seasons in my book as long as the team improves and he shows growth as a coach. If not then it's time to find another again unfortunately.

He’s coaching like this is just an experimental year which it is. I haven’t been happy with some of his decisions but others have been fine. He’s not nearly as bad as Reich.

If you have Frank this OL….Frank would have. a better offense than Canales has.  And I’m no Frank fan.

And the OL play has been markedly better with the investment. Other than that we’re still playing with one hand tied behind our back at QB and our one free agent upgrade at WR has predictably turned into a diva. The rookie WRs also seem promising.

I will say that there has been noticeable improvement in the 3 games where the offense has shown up with Dalton taking the snaps as opposed to Bryce. No, it’s not good enough but this team had holes at every position in the offseason and Canales needs at least one more season to show improvement. Once we suffered the injuries on defense, any hope of winning more than 3 games went out the window. I just can’t blame it on the coach yet.

It's time to flush the toilet at the end of the season. DC is 8 games in and is nowhere near ready to be a HC. He isn't even a great OC, below average really. WTF is the point of dragging this into another year? In a couple more years he will finally be ready for the job he already has.

Brady needed to go somewhere good and learn more. He did. He wasn't ready when he left here so keeping those guys doesn't mean they will ripen in a situation that is steeped in failure, it means they need to go somewhere good and work their way back up. That's DC to me. I wouldn't even want him as an OC at this point.

I think he was a "fine" hire.  I understood Tepper not wanting a guy like vrabel or harbaugh (and hes an idiot for it) but if you dont go that route then you are going to end up with a guy like DC.   And like we said at the time there are plenty of red flags with this hire and I never understood the qb whisperer bullshit.  All we can do is hope for the best he gets better as he gains experience and better players.

The cynical part of me as a panther fan think this puppy is getting a coach/gm reboot in 2026.
