Dan Graziano: Panthers will trade Diontae Johnson

I absolutely agree with the last sentence of your post. I disagree (just a little) with sentence 2.

I'd hate to lose AT and DJ in the middle of the season. These guys are established VETS who understand coverages and know how to get open. If we lose both of them before the deadline we would have no veteran presence to help the QBs during the game or help the younger guys develop their games. If AT and DJ are both traded we would probably have the youngest receiving core in the NFL...paired with the worst QB play if somehow Young ends up getting most of the snaps going forward.

Unless David Moore becomes a starter, 3 of our starters (Coker, Mingo, and Legette) would have less than 2 years of experience. The Panthers TE corps is among the worst in the league. Scoring points would become harder which is the last thing the team can afford with a defense as poor as ours. If Dalton returns soon I'd like to give him at least one VET to depend on for the next 11 games.

but if Andy Dalton is your QB.....what do you want the vets helping him do? I don't want us to win a random game at this point.  I just want offensive volume in losing efforts.

I do get having AT maybe to just lead a young WR room of how to go about business.  But Dionate Johnson is here because of how he has acted.....so, I see no real reason to keep him (and make it 2).

Grew up in Frederick, MD.  Lived in Charlotte most of my life.

Currently working in Frederick MD.

Frederick suuuuuuuuucks.

Charlotte times 100,000 - not comparable.

Maryland sucks as a whole compared to VA and NC and even SC.

Annapolis is the only city I like in MD.

But it’s far better than WV and PA.

NC for the win.

I think Frederick itself isn't great, but it's a good location to access everything else. An hour from Harper's Ferry, the Shenandoah, Baltimore, Towson, Tyson's Corner, DC. And you can always drive 20-30 minutes to Rockville or Bethesda. Of course I'm partial to Annapolis too, but that's a bit of a hike from Frederick. The biggest gut punch is traffic. 66 is better after the COVID construction, but 495 and 270 are still hell on earth.

I have no problem with moving Johnson. He doesn't want to be here going forward so I'm cool with trading him. I wouldn't want  to trade AT if a deal is brokered for Johnson by the deadline for the reason I cited earlier.  I hope that clarified my view.

Umm, did you see his interview after the 40-7 loss where he said he can’t play every position? I am not going to call that cancerous because he’s correct, but he’s not resigning with us. That’s clear.

”Hey, Dan, I’m done with this poo.  No way I’m re-signing here.  Eat dirt.”

After not having a losing season to 1-6 and a team so far from competing, it’s extremely obvious that he’s gone. That’s why you see if you can get good value now.

Any value. Saves us money. Saves us a bad example probably for anyone still giving a poo. And what do you get if the trade deadline passes and he is playing out the string?

I mean, that type of stuff carried on to the field (I believe that line is now crossed), will cost him money but he may not be able to restrain himself. Even if he realizes he is hurting himself.

Matt Miller brought up an interesting scenario for the “who the heck wants to trade up with this class?” Crowd, with Daboll being given the blessing that he will be here next year.

Looks like the Giants will have a chance to draft their own QB and if the panthers are 1 or 2, I could see the giants trading up to secure either Sanders or Ward.

Imo, what we need is large numbers of picks.  The reality is that with virtually any NFL team, there are going to be picks that fail.  The more picks you have, the greater the odds that you will get legitimate players.  Which is why I get annoyed when we trade two picks (or in some cases more) to move up a few spots to get one player.

So if trading a guy (Johnson) who will not be here next year anyway nets us a third or even a second, great.  But just pick the best guy available at that slot, and don't try to move up to get your guy.

DeAndre Hopkins is 100 times the player that Johnson is, even at his age and he was had for a 5th.  We'll be lucky to get a 6th for him.

No he's not. You still living in the past. Hopkins has been injury prone over the last few years and he's no longer a deep threat WR.

Johnson at this point is a better WR.

I don't think we can trade Johnson and we are going to have to tag him unless he's a complete locker room mess.  I doubt he's going to be a locker room problem because he knows he can't get paid with this rep that he already has.  Without Johnson, we literally have no receiving threats and how are we going to develop any QB without receivers.

    • LeBron not getting enough attention he had to announce to the world he's leaving social media for the time being lol   This man about to be 40. This is kid like behavior and I'm a fan of LeBron. Cmon bro do better.
    • Does anyone else see this as the beginning of the end of Freddie Andersen? It started as a day-to-day. Escalated to week-to-week: Brind'Amour announced that Andersen was considered week-to-week with the injury. He said, "That's a little more time than I was hoping, but hopefully we'll get an update every week". Next: Brind'Amour later said that Andersen's injury would be "way longer" than expected. Now: https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/toronto-maple-leafs/latest-news/report-former-maple-leafs-goaltender-frederik-andersen-shut-down-by-hurricanes-to-miss-roughly-8-weeks-following-knee-surgery According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, Andersen is set to undergo surgery that will keep him out of the team's lineup for "roughly" eight weeks. Who here believes the Canes will roll with Kochetkov and Martin without making a move?
    • Meniscus maybe? I can't see it being ligaments or he would be done for the year.
